I am using FF 2.0.0.6 on Vista Home Ultimate. When I click to run, I get two requests to start. If I cancel the 2nd one, FF runs.

If I click on a link in email, instead of just going to FF when it is running, I have to click to continue.

I beleive it is a Vista problem, but maybe not, because the problem just started. But then on the other hand vicious Vista is always "patching itself. "

    More on FF 2.0.0.6

I forgot other symptoms of my problems. If I click on a link in an email message, instead of loading that link directly, I am asked to continue or cancel the request.
Also, in recent days, I am asked each time if I want to make Thunderbird my default browser. I say "yes" but next time I'm asked again.
Control Panel indicates it is set as default.

    Cal,

Create a new Profile, to see whether or not your existing Profile is corrupt. Don't move anything from the existing Profile, just use the new Profile to see if your symptoms still exist.

    No change

Tried a new profile, but the problem remains.

Any chance it's a Vista problem? My short experience with Vista has been less then joyful.

When it works, it's great, but there are a lot of areas that make me yearn for XP.

    Cal,
I hope that you get your problem squared away. Please, let us know if you do.
As for Vista, I renewed my service contract on my computer (XP) for three years, a few months ago. May be things will have be straightened out by then.
I remember that XP required to use Custom settings for it to accept non Microsoft software as default. Is Vista anything like it?

    Cal,

Could you post the exact error message you're getting?

    Thanks! :)

Windows error opening Internet shortcut or local HTML file - Firefox
    See also --
Bug 370053 – Clicking a URL shortcut icon opens two instances of Firefox --- See comment #21 below

    Getting confused

    Ramona,

This is getting me confused. (old age)

If I "Run as Administrator" the problem is not there. If click on an icon shortcut, it is. There is NO error message - I am simply asked a second time if I want to continue or cancel. If I cancel, FF comes up. If I continue, a second copy tries to load and either it takes an eternity to load or it locks up up the system and I have to do a hard reboot.

I have noticed another strange behavior! If I click TB (latest version) all's well with the world, but I can't "Run as Administrator ".

It seems to me to be a Vista problem. I see all kinds of complaints (a PC word for what I see) about Vista, but it's hard to determine what's true and what malcontent. It does seem to me that every patch that comes down the road fixes something, but oftem leads to a new concern.

The vendor that sold me my new PC told me, "Live with it for 6 months to a year and Vista will cure most or the problems." Not sure how I feel abotu that statement!

I read Tony's comment "This bug still repro's on the 1.8.0 branch for vista." and I have to admit that I'm lost as to what the thread it went to is all about.

    Cal,

The Bug Report shows that the problem was fixed for Windows XP for Firefox 1.5.x. Comment #21 is stating that the problem remains in the Vista OS, for Firefox 1.5.x, (1.8.0 branch) but that since the 1.5.x series reached End-Of-Line (EOL) in April '07, there would be no further action.

Version 2.0.0.6 is of the 1.8.1 branch, and you can see this by clicking on the "Help" tab, "About Firefox"
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6

So really, altho the same problem as you're having, this bug doesn't really apply to the 1.8.1 Branch, and Vista OS. I haven't done a search yet, and I will, for either a Bug, or information that pertains to Vista. It's fairly safe to say that this is a Vista incompatibility with Firefox, or the reverse...

Does this happen when using IE, or have you tried using IE?

    Cal,

I found a couple of workarounds for you:

    Workarounds:

    FF 2.0 and Windows Vista
I can't check this out as I run Windows XP.

FF2.0 and Vista's User Account Control
Let us know if this helps you. I'm still searching for the Mail problem...

    Victory - got it!

Thanks Ramona (and others who commented),

The "FF 2.0 and Windows Vista" workaround did the job.

Both the double loading of FF and the extra click when going from a link in TB now are working correctly.

    Again Thanks,

    Cal
