How to remove popup ads

I get annoying popup ads all the time. I thought U could add the 'offending' URL to the list of restricted sites with a trailing * and suppress all future popups. I did that * now the restricted site list contains no trailing * tho it did yesterday????????????????

 

How about Pop up stopper or Ad-Shield?

And while a trailing * maybe should work, all I've ever used or seen used is leading * marks like a couple I have on my system now:

*.100hot.com
*.trackads.com
