I am useing a laptop, and sometimes when I am using it, a horisontal line of pixels, 1 pixel high and the width of my screen (1280 pixels) across, would just turn white, randomly, and it mostly happens when I am playing games. It goes away most of the time if I shut my computer down for a couple of hours or just adjust the physical position of the screen (tilt).

What is going wrong, it isn't a program because the pixels stay white even while it is shutting down.

    Hi, BrynTheSkits. :)

Have you tried looking for updated graphics-related drivers for your specific laptop model at the laptop manufacturer's web site?

Yes, I have looked on the manufacturer's web site and there have been no new driver updates.

Also, the problem seems to be now permanent, I have turned on my laptop 3 times and the line has appared and stayed on the screen from start-up to shutdown.

The line goes dark gray and light gray depending on the image on the screen behind the pixel, but not totally white or black.

UPDATE: There are now 2 of these lines.

I had a similar problem with an old OmniBook (1996 vintage) which "shifted" and or "doubled" a few vertical lines. Like you, I noticed that changing the position of the screen altered the appearance. I gave the screen a massage around its edges to find out if it was a contact problem. Eventually, the problem cured itself and I believe it was moisture or "something" that was the culprit. (The LapTop had been disused for some time and had been stored in a non-heated environment.)

Since your situation is similar, the cause may be similar and I don't think it's a driver problem.

Thank you for your response, I think I have eactly the same problem, except the lines on my screen are horizontal. Would that make a difference in what was causing the problem?

I have disassembled an OmniBook, enabling me to fix a problem (don't remember which) but I only removed the screen, never opened it. I don't know how it is connected internally but I guess that a contact problem can develop in different ways.

Yea, I too was thinking it is a contact problem, and I have no idea how to correct/reconnect my screen, so I will probably have to take it to a technician to see what he think the problem is and if he can fix it.
