When I had circuit city perform a clean install of my botchd VISTA install something weird came up. I have three hard drives on my computer and the OS is installed on Hard Drive C. For some reason a boot file called BOOTSECT.BAK is located on hard drive G and without that my system won't boot.

So I need to know where I need to move this file in the windows OS files and how to move it there. When I tried to paste it in different places I get a pop-up asking me to try again because it was denied.

I have UAC turned on and it still won't allow me to modify the OS files.

    Any help?

What folder is it currently in and why do you want to move it?

If it's in the root of C, it probably should/must stay there.

    I have three Hard Drives:

Hard Drive C OS Installed Here

    Hard Drive D

Hard Drive G BOOTSECT.BAK file here

The file in G is not in a folder, its just there on its own. I need to get it back to hard drive C and put it where it belongs so I can remove this drive and be able to boot with only the two hard drives.

I think the steps outlined in the following will move the bootloader files to the C drive...

Windows Vista no longer starts after you install an earlier version of the Windows operating system in a dual-boot configuration

Might want to get a second option before proceeding.

Be careful. Vista calls its drive C: no matter what; e.g. My vista in a multiboot situation is installed on the actual e: (third) partition, but when vista's running it's called c:!!!

Usually boot files are on the first partition, which is usually a primary, and disk management in computer management in administrative tools in control panel may clear this up.
