P.S Uh, MSN crashed, and it had a stange message, it said sorry for inconveineve, blah, blah. but, instead of the usual Send Message or Don't Send, it said Tell MSN! or Don't Tell. is this normal? also, earleir today, all my programs just stopped responding, and i could not close them, not even with Task Manager. It sounds like there is a problem in the steps taken during the installation of the printer.

I would disconnect the printer, boot into Safe Mode and uninstall the HP printer software, see if there is an uninstall in Start -> All Programs or go to Add Remove Programs (and uninstall any other software for previous printers). Go to Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes, right-click on printer or any other listing if you don't use them and select Delete.

When you boot back into normal Windows, follow the printer's installation steps carefully (it will tell you exactly when to connect the printer).

alright, new error. my father was complaining of slow shutdown times, and slow commands. So i am in Safe Mode right now, and i am currently scanning for viruses using AVG Free 7.5. I have run into a problem, however. Whenever I check for viruses, I usually scan for RootKits, using AVG RootKit. So, I said to Scan for RootKits, and it said Please Restart your computer before using AVG anti-rootkit. So i was like ?????. So almost as soon as i start the anti-virus scan, it said Error Reading Boot Sector of Disk. So i was ????????? even more. I havent been using any P2P programs, and using safe sites, etc, etc. Please help me. So, any idea as to what is wrong? Thanks.

    You should:

    1. Respond to mattman's post regarding your 1st problem.

    2. Post the 2nd problem - which is totally unrelated to the 1st - in a new thread.

Greenday, try not panic, especially over singular occurrences. Windows can have "hiccups" now and again.

I have had shutdown problems related to drivers, but I would check for spyware and viruses first. On the drivers side, if this installation of Windows was done before 2004, it will predate SP2, if you have not installed updated drivers, you should find them. The chipset and graphics drivers are the first to investigate, but also cover audio, network/LAN/ethernet and any older hardware you might be running. If it is a branded computer (Dell, HP, Compaq, etc) you should find all their drivers on their website.

Did you overcome the "Error reading Boot Sector ". Antiviruses can "lock" and "innoculate" the Boot Sector.
