    [Resolved] W32.MyZor.fk@yf

I have a friend who received a pc from his brother. The pc is running Windows 2000 and has the virus W32.MyZor.fk@yf and also something named SmiFraud G. At this time I am unsure of the specs of the pc (my friend said his brother built it) but does anyone have a solution to remove these two items?

    Hi Rackster :)

Easily enough removed, but I do recommend your friend post a HijackThis log from the computer so that it can be analyzed properly. There may be, and usually are, other infections accompanying the ones you've mentioned.

Thanks Noahdfear...I will have my friend run Highjackthis. I did see in one of the links to this program where it said if you didn't know what you were doing it could cripple your system. Will he be able to run this without much trouble or knowledge of pc's? I will help him do it,as well as introduce him to these boards, but I would hate to "help him" and end up doing more damage!:)

Your friend can post the log here. We can walk him through it. :)

Looks like one of the latest variants. Download SmitfraudFix by S!Ri, saving it to the desktop.

    • Restart the computer in Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key upon startup and selecting Safe Mode from the Advanced Startup Menu. Logon to your account.
    • Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe to start the tool and press 2, then hit Enter.
    • You will be prompted 'Do you want to clean the registry?' answer Y (yes) and hit Enter.
    • If prompted to replace the infected wininet.dll file (if found), answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
    • Reboot to normal mode when the tool completes.

Post the contents of C:\rapport.txt and a fresh HijackThis log.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges to complete the following.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe) to your desktop.
    Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open; main.txt, which will be maximized and extra.txt, which will be minimized.

Post the contents of main.txt only for now.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entry, then click Fix Checked.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Salestart] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\mav_startupmon.exe "

    Close HijackThis

    Reboot.

Delete the following folders in bold.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SalesMonitor
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Companion Wizard
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007

Did you install Advanced Registry Optimizer?

There are plenty of good free registry cleaners available. I recommend you uninstall it if it's just the trial version. Make sure both of the following folders are gone after uninstalling and a reboot.

    C:\Program Files\Advanced Registry Optimizer
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Sammsoft

Click Start>Run, type cmd then hit enter to open a command window. Copy the bolded command below then paste it into the command window and hit enter.

    attrib -h -r -s C:\UWA7P

Now copy and paste the next command.

    dir C:\UWA7P >> C:\uwa7p.txt

Come back here and post the contents of the file C:\uwa7p.txt

    Then;
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

    Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
        Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan:
      • Select My Computer
    • This will program will start and scan your system.
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
      • Now click on the Save as Text button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Post the Kaspersky log and one more fresh HijackThis log.

Sorry for the delayed response, was away for a few days.I uninstalled the Advanced Registry Cleaner. Here is the contents of uwa7p.txt.

Volume in drive C has no label.
    Volume Serial Number is EC50-758D

    Directory of C:\UWA7P

    08/25/2007 02:40p <DIR> .
    08/25/2007 02:40p <DIR> ..
    0 File(s) 0 bytes
    2 Dir(s) 13,556,174,848 bytes free

When I tried to download Kaspersky WebScanner, it never asked me about the Active X component. The program never launched. A box popped up saying it couldn't locate 002E08D9.key. I did a search for this file and couldn't find anything. The only thing close was one named 01FF0A34.key. After doing another search, the results came up completely empty.

Here is the latest HJT file...

OK, lets try a Panda scan.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
    • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC now button
    • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    • Enter your Country
    • Enter your State/Province
    • Enter your e-mail address and click send
    • Select either Home User or Company
    • Select the appropriate Yes or No to receiving marketing information
    • Click the Free Online Scan button
    • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
    • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the ActiveScan report.

Your HijackThis log appears to be clean. ;)

Glad to hear you got a clean scan. :)

You need to uninstall all Java (JRE) entries in Add/Remove programs and delete the contents of the C:\Program Files\Java folder when done. Then, install the latest version of Java from here.

    Delete the following if present.

    C:\UWA7P
    C:\Deckard
    C:\WINNT\system32\tmp.reg
    C:\WINNT\system32\SrchSTS.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\Process.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\dumphive.exe
    dss.exe

    Now empty the recycle bin.

Your computer is now clean! Geri has posted some very helpful information and recommendations regarding future protection in the following link.
