We need some assistance. I am at a friends house looking at her computer. She recently got upgraded to Vista (she had XP Home). She has been having some probs and now we really have a problem. We were on the internet because her AVG stated that she needed an update. When we got back to her desktop most icons were gone. We restarted and NOW the black screen says "Windows failed to start ". She doesn't have the disk and none of the safe mode options or last config allow her to start the computer. We need some serious help!!!

I am so sorry, I posted this thread in the wrong area. I'm just a bit worked up, again sorry!!

I doubt that there is anything we can do here.

 How did she get upgraded... without a disk???

    Arie,

Why do updates, whether they be from our Antivirus provider or from windows update cause so many problems? Updates are suppose to make your computer work safer and better, not cause problems. Those Windows updates of 08-14-07, sure caused a lot of people to have problems. Is it because most computers cannot handle so many updates at one time? or what? The Problems I had almost makes me not to want to update my Windows Vista Home Premium. I turned off auto update with the intention of installing updates one at a time, but now my Norton Security keeps reminding me that the Windows auto update is turned off.

Sorry, but this has nothing to do with the topic at hand! Here the problem is an upgrade from Windows XP > Windows Vista.

    Hi all,

First off thank you for moving my topic to the correct area. Second, I figured there wasn't much to do. My friend contacted the guy that fixed her computer in the first place and requested he give her back her previous edition. So hopefully, that will solve her probs.

    Again thank you!!!
