TB wants to up date, it goes through the motions, but stops. It says, make sure other applications are closed or have permission to modify the files, then restart. I'm the only one on this computer. What do I need to close? Nothing open. Just the task bar down below, with the anti virus, etc.

    rgn,

    Try this:

    Close Thunderbird
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to this folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Thunderbird\Mozilla Thunderbird

Delete these files, contained in the Mozilla Thunderbird folder:
    updates.xml
    active-update.xml

    AND

    This folder:
    updates folder

Restart Thunderbird and try updating again. Let us know the outcome.

I went and closed my AVG and Spy Sweeper and it finally downloaded the updates. AVG must have thought it was a virus or something.
    Thanks,
    Bob

I have AVG, and it never interfered with any download, or update (which is a download, after all). However, Spy Sweeper may have caused a block.

It's doubtful that SpySweeper would have blocked the automatic update. I have both AVG and SpySweeper installed, and I've never experienced the problem Bob described.

Jim, not having Spy Sweeper I say may.
I would not rely on automatic updates, anyway. I would rather uninstall, and then reinstall the complete version. But every computer is different, so anything is possible.
