    Hi,

    2.2 Core 2 Duo
    256MB Nvidia Gefore 7600GT
    XP Home

When I try to use my tv as a 2nd display, it is working except that everything is black and white!!

I'm using the old S Video to RCA connector that I had with my old video card, and using it with my new computer.

Any ideas as to what is happening? How to fix?

    Thanks for your help everyone!

    Hello Barry,
One of the main things about using a TV as a display is that unless they are made for that purpose, they do not have very high resolution settings. Try setting the resolution low and working up.

The graphics card manufacturer will have instructions for setting up a television as a secondary display at their website. You might find them in the Help section of the graphics software (look for an icon in the notification tray, a listing in All Programs or maybe by right-clicking on the desktop).

I am sure I saw information or even a wizard to set a television as a secondary display in Win XP, but do you think I can find it now??:D Let me know if you are still stuck, I will check on my dual display computer, but it has been set up using the nVidia display control panel. [Edit: I now see you have nVidia graphics, there are instructions at their website if they are not available in the nVidia software]

EDIT2: You need to set up dual monitors either through Windows display settings or through the graphics manufacturer's "control panel ". If you have installed the manufacturer's software (your's would be the nVidia Display Control Panel), use that to set up the dual monitor system. If only the graphics drivers have been installed and not the manufacturer's software, use the Windows display settings to configure the "multiple" monitor setup.

    Hey Mattman,

    Thanks for the reply.

I forgot to mention that with my previous computer, this worked like a charm with the same tv. I am quite familiar with the setup of the dual display, etc which is why this situation is puzzling me.

Do you think the newer graphics card, just can't handle the S video to RCA converter properly?

    Thanks!

It seems to me that the nVidia software (control panel) is installed. You set up the dual display using Windows display settings, but it will not work correctly that way because the nVidia software is controlling the graphics. I think you will need to reverse the settings you have made in Window's Display Settings and use the nVidia software to make the settings.

When you have the nVidia software installed you need to use that to make changes. Using Windows settings will cause strange results like you appear to have found.

I think you will find that is the problem.
