For the last four hours, I have been trying unsuccessfully to delete a folder from my data partition (my OS is on C:, my data partition is D: ). [The folder is one I restored from an Acronis backup - I was just experimenting with "partial" restorations.]

The original folder in question (called "screen shots ") had the following path:
    D:\Rebecca\My Documents\Rebecca's docs\screen shots

Before restoring the folder, I renamed the existing "screen shots" folder to "screen shots original ", so that I would be able to subsequently distinguish between the original and the restored folder.
The restoration was successful, but instead of the restored folder showing up where I'd anticipated (same path as before), it now shows up within a new folder called "Drive(D) ". I.e., its path is now:
    D:\Rebecca\My Documents R\Rebecca's docs\Drive(D)\Rebecca\My Documents R\Rebecca's docs\screen shots

The screen shots folder was restored, and I can view its contents fine, but as I still have the original folder where I want it (D:\Rebecca\My Documents\Rebecca's docs\screen shots) I'd like to get rid of the restored Drive(D) folder.

When I try to delete it, though, I get the following message:

"Cannot remove folder System Volume Information: Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use. "

I've found instructions on "How to gain access to the System Volume Information folder" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309531/en-us,) but I can't for the life of me find the "System Volume Information folder in the root folder "!!

I've adjusted my settings to "show hidden files and folders" and not to "hide protected operating system files ". Where/what is the "root folder "? I've looked in my Windows folder on my C:\ drive, but there's no folder called "System Volume Information ". I've looked in the "system" and "system32" folders within my Windows folder, but it's not there either.

Would someone please point me in the right direction?

    Many thanks!

Note to myself: the next time I find myself struggling with something I can't figure out, come here first and save myself potential hours of frustration/aggravation!

Thank you, Steve - the folder is now history!

Thanks Digger, too - I'm going to check out the utility right now.
