A small annouance but I can't figure out how to make a change.

    MyDeskTopDocuments It's EVERYWHERE!

Everything in my Windows XP SP2 points to this.

All of my programs are on Drive C:

All of my saved files, from all of my programs are on Drive D: various folders.

Is there a way to change the look in default drive to Drive D?

    Thanks.. .

    Hi, Rick. :)

Looking for more details that will help me understand your issue better.

I have never heard of "MyDeskTopDocuments" and Google turns up nothing.
Not sure what you mean by "EVERYWHERE" either.
Are you saying you want to have Windows Explorer automatically open to the D drive instead of the C drive? If so, what method do you normally use to access Windows Explorer?

Ideally, please describe in detail the steps you perform to arrive at the view you want to change (so we can duplicate those steps and see exactly what you are referring to).

I think I know what you mean but it wasn't easy figuring it out. If I'm correct, you can make the change you need by using TweakUI.

Run it and browse to "Common Dialogs" (double click it or click the + symbol) > Places Bar > and tag the box "Custom Places Bar" and type the full path to your desired place. Click apply and OK out when finished. You can create as many as five different destinations.

These destinations will appear when you choose "Save As" in most programs.

An alternate method that you may find useful and easier is to right click the "My Documents" icon and select "Properties" and change the target to where you would prefer it to be and click OK. The effect is global. Decline the offer to move your existing files when asked unless you really want to do that. You can reverse that easily by right clicking the icon again and selecting "Restore Default. "

    Default PATH

I tried the suggestion in TweakUI. Sorry to say that that was not the solution.

When I go to save a new document from any program the default location is MyDesktopDocuments.

I would like to have the Default OPEN and SAVE PATH in all programs to always be D:\

    Any ideas on this?

    Thanks. Rick

Did you try the alternate method I suggested? Just right-click the My Documents icon and select Properties. Then change the target to D:\ and OK out. Then when you save anything to My Documents, it will go to the D: drive root. You may want to place things in a folder as opposed to the root. If so, first create the folder and then use its path for the target as suggested above.

I have used TweakUI and it works fine for that too.

The above advice will not work for all programs. Generally speaking, any enhanced program will have the toolbar option to allow you to change the default "Save As" location. For example, in MS Word, click Tools > Options > File Locations and highlight the one you want to change. Then click the "Modify" button and type the path you desire (or use the browse button), in your case D:\ and click OK to exit.

Once you change those program settings they will remain that way until you reset them.

I'm a little troubled by that statement since the default location is simply My Documents and not MyDesktopDocuments. Have you changed the name of the default My Documents folder or have you created an additional folder with that name?

Clear and complete reporting of all issues of your problem will help in getting a solution. I'm still making assumptions since you never answered the original questions that Mailman asked. :(

RickinSoCal, I corrected the drive letter from E: to D: that I had wrongly mentioned in my previous post. I apologize for any confusion that may have caused. I also added some additional comments and queries that may help you with your quest.

    Best regards.
