Just bought a new laptop and would like to install FrontPage 2002 on it to allow me to update a charity website I manage. It's got a lot of info, is well established and I've run it through FP for almost 10 years - I've no desire to start again with a new editing package and I understand that FP2002 will run on Vista (at least well enough for my purposes).

Unfortunately, my FP2002 CD is an upgrade from a previous copy of FP98; that CD is probably somewhere in the loft (if my wife hasn't caught it in one of her purges). To install the FP2002 version it states that it needs a previous version installed - even if I could find the FP98 disk, I've been told FP98 is unlikely to be an easy install.

Any ideas? The best replacement deal seems to be an academic FP2003 license which I could justify through my wife's school, but it would be installed on my laptop, not hers. Besides, I don't want to fork out £££ (or even $$$) to buy a new full copy of FrontPage if I don't have to (nor do I want Expression Web as MS' own page reports that learning and applying CSS in place of the FP banners and headers, etc will be worthwhile - I have no desire nor the time to learn a whole new system and then rebuild the site).

    Thanks in advance...

With upgrades in general it is not necessary to install the previous version from a 'full' CD - during the installation process of an upgrade the installer will check for a previously loaded version on the drive - if it does not find one it will ask for evidience of possession of a full copy of a qualifying version and ask for that to be put in the drive. When satisfied the installer will ask for replacement of the CD with the version you wish to install and proceed with the install.

An upgrade CD contains the full version and as you paid less for it than for a full version MS, in this case, needs to be sure that you have a full copy of a previous version before it will install.

Go rummage in the loft :)

    PeteC,

After posting the query here I paid another visit to the Microsoft support site and found similar advice, though they only state that you should have a FP2000 CD available to chuck in the drive. Looks like I'll need to get the coveralls on and mount a loft expedition.

    Thanks.
