Please Note: I have recently made a thread explaining my problems with CS:S, the following is not my problem, but my friends, as he is having trouble with CS:S as well, but a different one.

He sent his computer in for a clean up after it was attacked for viruses. He got it back, and ever since then it has been freezing on him. Some times it will freeze whilst loading the game (on the "Retrieving Server Info" screen), other times it will freeze whilst he is picking teams etc. and the maximum amount of time he has successfully been able to play is about 3 minutes, which resulted in a freezing anyway.

He has un-installed and re-installed CS:S and Steam, but nothing seems to help. What could his computer guy done to cause this problem? Is it that the information in CS:S is getting sent on one big loop, causing the same noise to be played over and over again, along with the image? If so, what could be the cause, and the solution to this problem?

Could anyone that is familiar with CS:S please help?

Edit: He has also updated his drivers, re-installed them and DirectX.

Sorry I'm not familiar with CS:S & so many different variables could be involved but have you ruled out a heat issue? Is his power supply adequate, did they change it? Are the video & sound cards seated properly? could also be his video settings....SLI?AGP?.

Check his memory....not his now but in the machine :)
Did they swap them out?...are you sure?
