Does AOL Spyware Protection work in real time?

I am concerned that it may clash with Comodo BO Clean as I have been told that that any antispyware program with IDS (intrusion detection system) working in real time can clash with Comodo BO Clean.

    THANKS

IMHO anything with the letters A-O-L is not going to be nearly as good as any sort of 'real' anti-spyware nor any other type of application.

I'd strongly advise disabling AOL and keep the COMODO\BO Clean as active, it's much more stable and dedicated, not an after thought. Even if some of AOL has some 'borrowed' technology from other vendors.

Actually, the AOL Spyware protection is a good application, it's made by Computer Associates. And the free AOL Antivirus (Active Virus Shield) is also very good, it's made by Kapersky.

    CA= PestPatrol, notorious for false\positives.

KAV like I stated, while good, still not up to snuff of direct KAV install.

Just stumbled upon the AOL\KAV Anti-Virus page:
    http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp?

So now it's McAfee. And with AOL having just lost a ton more of subscribers and money who knows what they will come up with next?

Defiantly not what I would consider an option, especially at this point.

Like that's a surprise? Thier advertising revenue went up, but not as much, everything else is tanking.

They recently even made the pay-for-email accounts embedded with ads. w-t-f are they thinking?

Agree with you about the AOL Spyware protection. I tested it with Trojan Simulator and AOL Spyware protection blocked it.

Whereas, Ad-Aware 2007 (free version) failed to detect it on a scan.

That's hardly what I would call any sort of test\comparison\review, one infection?

I can find every app on the planet to fail that test. None of them are infallible or get everything. You need to weigh the amount of false\positives against the database, frequency of f\p's, variants of infections found and even more so.

I won't even get into the problems many have come across with Ad-Aware 2007, tho some of that seems to have quieted down as of late.

The key to spyware-virus protection (other than education) is to use several decent protection applications and removal programs. There is no one program that does it all.

A false positive in this type of security is not so bad. It is better to err on the side of safety than to err in the reverse. At worst, the application will block a site or a script that is not dangerous, in which case, one can always "allow" the blocked content.

There are no "works 100% accurate" security applications. All security apps require some user input & settings mgmt in order to get them to do what is desired by the user. And that too is another key, "what is desired by the user ".

The McAfee offered by AOL works really really good. It took out a virus and a bunch of trojans on mine.
