Using remote assistance, you won't be able to go into safe mode. If you explain how to do it for your friend, Safe Mode or Last Known Good Configuration may be a good solution. When in doubt, do a non destructive re installation of Windows.

Sorry i took so long but he was having issues with family and stuff...

Okay so we did a full nvidia uninstall and then reinstalled it.

Still fails on 8 and 9. This seems more like a DirectX problem rather than Graphics.

EDIT: oh and i did that, i had him put the Xbox 360 Vision Cam on his monitor and walked him through to Safe Mode.

    Just my two cents.
I have the GeForce4 MX 4000, and it does work with DirectX9, with the original drivers installed.
Some things to check in the BIOS, one is the AGP Aperature size. I have mine set at 128 mb (system RAM), although I have 128 mb DDR on the card.
I also have AGP Fast Write enabled, and DBI Output for AGP Trans. enabled (improves signal quality for AGP 3.0 (8X). These last two are disabled by default on some BIOS's.

    Hi Markp62,
Just a point from information I have found...with AGP Fast Write, you need to find out if the graphics adapter supports it. I would expect all the modern adapters support it, but I would check for an older adapter (me, I would check anyway  ).

Sorry I can't add any more pontiaclover. If DirectX 10 has been (tried to be) installed, that may have upset the DX file system. You can only just reinstall DirectX, it cannot be uninstalled. Everything points to the graphics adapter being DirectX 9.0 compatible.

    Matt

Use the nVidia control panel and force antialiasing OFF. I have seen it cause problems like this several times. In 80% of GeForce 4 MX cards, the antialiasing burns out or something.

I just checked the video card using Everest, and it is supported. These problems being experienced with DirectX 8 and 9 are hardware accelerated, may be a failing card.
I do have anti aliasing set to application-controlled.

Change it from application controlled to OFF. I had a similar situation with NeverWinter Nights. Turning the anti aliasing off solved the problem. If that works, then the card is failing. The card should function fine as long as that feature remains off.

Acupro, I don't have the problem here, pontiaclover's friend does. I was just supplying information about an identical card, as to what is possible with the video card.

Have you tried the directx and driver that comes with the install disk and / or the one on the website
    It should of been tested
    There may be another conflict
Remove the other cards and add on at a time
If you want to try older various versions of direct x you can find them at oldversion.com
However I would think that the newest versions are required

Do i do this in the game or Nvidia panel? I turned whatever had anti off and still no go.

It might be a failing card.

Turn it off in the nVidia control panel.
