I am so confRused by this little situation that has happened to me with both of my cd drives.

I have a CD-R drive that for now...seems to be working. I also have a DVD-R/CD-R drive that whenever I put a CD-R in...the name changes. It's brand new and I don't think I've even used it 5 times but when I did use it...it worked great. When I look the DVD Drive in the list in 'my computer' and there is no cd in it...it's called DVD-RAM Drive (E). When I put a CD-R in it to record information to a disk...the name it's called changes to CD-Drive (E). I've tried different cd's to see if it was a bad disk but it does it with any disk I put in to record on. What in the world would cause something like that and why would it work when I first installed in and then all of a sudden it not work because of the problem above? I have a screen shot for each situation (before disk insert and after) but didn't see that I could post anything like that. I had this same problem with my CD-R drive too and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It seems really strange though for that to happen to either disk and I'm pretty computer literate so it's frustrating that I can't figure out why something like this would happen.

Thank you so much in advance for any advice you can offer me. ;)

What you are seeing is perfectly normal - both my DVD-RW drives behave the same. R's behave the same as RW's.

If the disk, of either type, has been burnt the label of the disk as entered into the burning software, either by default or by the user is shown instead.

Some nice images on your site, BTW. I remember looking at it some time ago. You might be interested in my site - a lot of images from places you might know :)

You have some beautiful photos, Pete. I really enjoyed looking at the B&W images and lately...B&W has really become a favorite of mine too. I haven't had as much time as I'd like though to get out and shoot lately due to having to go to a "real job" each day. :( I did get a commission to shoot for our local football league though so I'm really looking forward to that. It'll be the first time I've done the athlete and team photos. I'm not too big on portrait work as I prefer landscape photography the most but I think I'll enjoy this project because I do love working with children. I hope one day I'll get the opportunity to get to some places like you show on your site though to increase my landscape work. The Grand Canyon and Yellowstone are on the top of my list of places to visit.

Thanks for your info on the drive and for the nice comment on my photos. About the drive...what I don't understand is that the disks I put in don't have anything on them at the time. They're brand new and blank. I want to be able to burn info onto them but when I put the disk in, the drive name changes and when I click on it...it says, "Drive E: is not accessible ". I was able to use the Nero Essentials to burn with it but if I want to ever use the Windows burning function, I can't do so due to my problem.

Yes, I see that too and I use Nere 7 exclusively for burning. Never used the built in Windows facility.

Generally you should stick with the third party burning software if it is installed.

Check out that Recording is enabled on the drive ....

Right click the drive in My Computer > Properties > Recording tab and check that Enable recording on this drive is checked.

Note that Windows native burning software does not burn to DVD.
