XP repair option

Hi, I am trying to repair my xp machine using the repair option from the CD but when I do it comes to the recovery console screen and says "the recovery console provides system repair and recovery functionality. 1: c:\windows....which windows installation would you like to log onto (to cancel press enter "....what do I enter at this point, please? I appreciate any help.

Pete, I followed those instructions until I got to step 5 but there wasn't an option to repair at that point. The only options were

1. to set up Xp on the selected item, press enter.

2. to create a partition in the unpartitioned space, press c

3. to delete the selected partition, press d.

What do I need to do now, please?
