    Hi,

I have windows 2000 server standard edition:

In the services.msc I have a running service that uses a domain account to start the service. The problem is that when I restart the machine the service does not startup although the start up type is on automatic, when I try to start it manually I get the message that "Could not start the service on a local computer" . To resolve the issue I went to the service property and under the Log on tab, and then I retyped the password for the domain account, then I started the service and it worked. I had checked the User rights assignments under the local security policy for the "Log on as a service" and the account is already included. Can someone please assist me?

    ----edited---
To clarify the issue I have to retype the account password for the service every time when I restart the server.

    Thank you,

Is the user account being use in the administrators group? Can you show us the exact error message that is reported in the system event log regarding this services failure to start?

The issue has been resolved. It seems that the user account must be added to local security policy for the Domain controller into the "log on as a service" to be effective.
