This is probably a really dumb question but I'm gonna ask anyway.

My harddrive I, in my computer, how do I make the icon look like the other 2 harddrives.

If you right-click on an empty area of the MyComputer window and select "Refresh ", does that do anything?

Does this icon issue persist after rebooting?

If that doesn't work, use the search feature to locate and delete all files named iconcache.db. Reboot for effect. (alternately you can use TweakUI to do this)

If that doesn't work, take a look at the Registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons

and see if it has a value entered on the right hand pane for your "I" drive. If so, delete it, leaving the blank default as you see in the other drives.

A little more info would probably be helpful. Drive "I" is a USB harddrive. It is a Western Digital Passport. When it was first hooked to the computer it displayed just like a Harddrive. Everytime after that it has displayed as in the picture.

It works perfectly. I was more curious that anything else.

Even though it's a USB hard drive, all of the previous posts still apply.

In addition, sometimes it's necessary to increase the size of the iconcache file to accommodate the icon demand being placed on it. There are several free utilities for that job or you can do it manually.

It's harmeless to leave it alone as you say.

Interesting - I would have expected it to show up under Devices with Removable Storage .....

I have a normal icon there now, thanks. IconCacheReg and a reboot seems to have fixed the problem (not really a problem, just an annoyance)

    Thanks
