I am having problems with the PC HD (scratching sounds, etc).. ..thinking about changing a NEW HD.

Is there possibility for me to install an OEM version of WIN XP to a NEW HD?
Does the program tag itself to the MAC addresses on MB only?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

It depends on the cd and the pc....

If it's a Dell cd and the new drive is going into the same Dell pc you wouldn't have a problem.

    Welcome Burgundy07,

You should not have any problem replacing a HD on any OEM unit. Do it using the cloning software provided with the drive or else get same from their web site. It will copy the data to the new drive and when you pull the old drive and reboot, the system will pick up the new drive automatically without a peep.

There are other ways to do that but you should stick to this method unless you are familiar with some better method. I use xxclone for these types of moves and have often used Acronis True image. To each his own.

The restrictions that an OEM may make on the software included can vary widely. If it comes with a CD, you can generally use it to install on practically any machine so long as you do it within the MS EULA. There are some however that hook on to the mobo bios and won't easily allow you to install onto any other hardware. I'd advise avoiding those companies for future purchases.

Nope. It's not a Dell. The PC is a self-configured unit. Bought my OEM WIN XP software off EBay.

    Worked fine for 2 years+..

Then if all you're doing is swapping drives you shouldn't have an issue.
