Click on Start->Run and type CMD (then click ok)

Type: ipconfig
You'll see a lot of stuff, but one line says IP Address.

Or: Click on this link:

Hi, loulou405. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

By the way (since you're a beginner), press the Enter key after typing ipconfig at the "DOS command prompt" as Steve instructed.

NOTE: After you have read the information in the black DOS command window, type exit and then press your Enter key to close the DOS command window.

If you are a curious person and you want to view even more information while in the DOS command window, then
type ipconfig /all and then press your Enter key.

If you want to copy all information in the black DOS command window to your "clipboard" for "pasting" into Windows Notepad (or other word processor), then
1. Right-click on the black DOS window and then left-click on "Select All ".
(This will turn the background color of your DOS window to white.)
2. Then press the Enter key.
(This will copy all of the information to your "clipboard" and the DOS window will return to a black background.)
3. Then open Windows Notepad (or other word processor).
4. Then click Edit > Paste (or hold down your Ctrl key and then press your V key).

If any information here is unclear or you want more information, please feel free to ask. :)

The IP address obtained by using the "ipconfig" command will give you the IP address for your computer on your network, not the IP address that the internet 'sees' you. Before you say that you do not have a network, it doesn't matter, that is the IP address your internet modem is using to communicate with your computer.
If you mean the IP address that you have on the internet, go to the following link, then click on ShieldsUP!, underneath *Hot Spots*.

Please keep messages in the forum (unless you have private matters to discuss) so everyone may benefit. Thanks! :)

Perhaps we can locate Internet connection setup instructions from your ISP.
1. Who is your Internet Service Provider?
2. How will you be connecting (dial-up, DSL, cable, or satellite)?
