I have Windows Updates set to automatically notify me of available critical patches. I used the Windows Update Tool Tray icon to download the updates and then I proceeded with the "Express Install" option.

After installing all the updates listed above, I was prompted to restart my computer. I restarted my computer and (so far) I have not noticed any problems. :)

    Automatic Update

I was notified through automatic update and installed 12 critical patches.

When I restarted, I was prompted for 5 more updates in automatic update.

Did this happen to anybody else?

Worked fine. I have Automatic updates set to notify about new updates, but not to download, or install. I think i'll disable the notification as well since MSFT releases updates so infrequently and wuauclt.exe causes slowness when I boot.

EDIT: Heh, disabling the Automatic Updates service breaks manually updating with the website.

    Hi,

Can anyone please tell me if KB936181 for Microsoft MXL Core Services 4.0 is required on an XP Home computer. I do not know what these services are or if they are installed by default or not.

    any help will be appreciated.

i would install it, just incase it is reuired. it seems it addresses some scruity flaws, so go and install it, MS updates take up very very small space of HD space, if thats what you are worried about

Yes, you do need this update for XML Core Services

The services are install by default and enable the reading of XML documents - a lot of help files are in this format nowadays ..... A search on my C:\ drive turned up 1303 .xml files.
