OK -- having issues installing my fax services. . . found a thread from a year ago that is EXACTLY what I'm experiencing. . . .tells me to expand the dll files that the set-up can't find. . . .

The fix looks like it'd work for me. . .but I'm not familar enough to make it work. . . .

[the thread I'm refering to was "Cabinet self-extractor for XP SP2 drivers" under Windows XP]

Here's the fix -- can someone please hold me hand and get me through this?

    -------------------------------------------
    Start, Run, CMD

CD \i386 <<< ------- assuming this is the directory path for \i386
    Expand fxsapi.dl_ fxsapi.dll
    Expand fxscfgwz.dl_ fxscfgwz.dll

(Note: there is a space after dl_ in both lines above)
    --------------------------------------------

OK -- here's where I feel stupid, my prompt comes up but after I ask it for \i386, I get the response - "is not recognzied. . blah, blah, blah. "

Does it matter that my prompt is C:\Documents and Settings\Owner> ?

this I386 folder is in the Windows folder -- even tried that path at the prompt. Please help! I really need the fax service for my computer!

    Thanks in advance!

Yes it makes a difference where you start. Unless give full pathname of where want to go.
    In your case: CD C:\WINDOWS\I386

Expand command will add the .dll file to directory your in.
I also use computer as a fax. Out of curiousty did search for fxsapi.dll.
    Found it in 3 places. c:\windows\i386, c:\windows\SevicePackFiles\i386, c:\windows\spool\drivers\w32x86\3

Have you tried adding the fax service thru Control Panel – Add or Remove Programs – Add or Remove Windows components (that's an icon to left) – then check – Add Fax Services?

Thanks so much. "CD" makes a difference -- I just don't the commands or what to do at the prompts!

I expanded the files and then windows set it up just fine -- yes, I had gone through the control panel -- everytime, it couldn't find that dll file.

Even downloaded that exact dll file from some dll website and saved somewhere else -- tired to browse for it, but still wouldn't copy for install -- it didn't work until I expanded it IN the I386 file. . . weird, but hey it installed. Here's hoping it works!

Thanks so much for time - I greatly appreciate it -- blessings on your day!
