I just got a new laptop and it came with WinXP preloaded. I like the laptop, but I am not sure I care much for XP. I have called the tech support for the maker of the laptop and they cannot answer my question, so. . .maybe someone here can.

In Win98ME (which is on my desktop computer) I have the quick launch. I have icons/shortcuts to the programs I use the most. It is convenient and I like it.

On XP, it put a couple icons down next to the start bar, but when I try to click and drag an icon I want there it refuses to let me.

Does XP use/allow the quick launch bar?

    Hello,

yes, to enable the quick launch bar right click anywhere in a clear space in the start bar, click properties, click "show quick launch"

also, you can change a lot of things back like they were in win98, consult the main site for tweaking XP more.

One thing you may need to do, in order to be able to drag icons to the Quick Launch bar is to unlock the Taskbar.

You just rightclick on the Taskbar and remove the check mark in front of "Lock the Taskbar ", this will also allow you to resize the Quick Launch Bar.
