    story

well a few time these past months my monitor was on sleep mode? while i powered on my computer and nothing happend so i held the power button until it shut off. so i notice that computer would crash this one day and after i logged on it would ask me about sending an error report but i would never get any more detail about it so it got to the point where i thought a system recovery would fix it.little did i know that this would be horrible for me .the recovery would go well but would crash after entering my user info it would during setup .one day i got lucky and setup completed and i was able to uncheck the thing so id be able to view stop errors i get all of these at random times , 0x50,page_fault_in_nonpaged file,0x7f,0x7e,0x0a,0xd1 these i believe come with irql_not_less_or_greater i get these on boot or crash also sometimes with it saying atapi.sys um id type more but its a pain doing via psp any clues so far? also ive never opend up my pc

    some already answerd questions

What is the make and model of the computer?model;compaq persario S4020WM

What kind of "Recovery" did you try? system f10 to access

Are you saying the "Recovery" failed? If so what is the current status of the computer?bsod upon most startups

How old is it? Did it ever work? yes was fine last week, bought sept 2003 also the recovery was fine it just crashed at a install point? causing windows ask to be setup again

can you get into safe mode?as far as i know it gives me bsod errors

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 00000f18, memory referenced
    Arg2: 00000002, IRQL
    Arg3: 00000000, bitfield :
    bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50)
Invalid system memory was referenced. This cannot be protected by try-except,
it must be protected by a Probe. Typically the address is just plain bad or it
    is pointing at freed memory.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: f275f3a8, memory referenced.
    Arg2: 00000000, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation.
Arg3: 8051d1c0, If non-zero, the instruction address which referenced the bad memory
    address.
    Arg4: 00000000, (reserved)

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 80535491, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: f2593844, Trap Frame

    logs were made last night

    now this morning at 11:00am

my pc has been running for the past 2 hours (no crashes) wow :p

amazing and i did the hp pcdoctor program passed them all with flying colors the only one i couldnt complete was the cd drive because some how wouldnt accept my cds and the floppy disk one i think maybe the floppy disk i put in was just bad. I didnt update to sp2 yet because i was reading something saying i should delete the atapi.sys then update to sp2 . Also heres something i forgot to mention. I was on sp2 when all this started happening last week

    so.... :D

i put the computer on standby and it gave me a stop error but i cant remember if i got the 0x44 whn i put it on standby and started or after i rebooted

i just got a new error again

NOTE: This is a hardware error. This error was reported by the CPU
via Interrupt 18. This analysis will provide more information about
the specific error. Please contact the manufacturer for additional
information about this error and troubleshooting assistance.

This error is documented in the following publication:

VAL - MCi_STATUS register is valid
Indicates that the information contained within the IA32_MCi_STATUS
register is valid. When this flag is set, the processor follows the
rules given for the OVER flag in the IA32_MCi_STATUS register when
overwriting previously valid entries. The processor sets the VAL
flag and software is responsible for clearing it.

    OVER - Error Overflow
Indicates that a machine check error occurred while the results of a
previous error were still in the error-reporting register bank (that
is, the VAL bit was already set in the IA32_MCi_STATUS register).
the processor sets the OVER flag and software is responsible for
clearing it. Enabled errors are written over disabled errors, and
uncorrected errors are written over corrected errors. Uncorrected
errors are not written over previous valid uncorrected errors.

    UC - Error Uncorrected
Indicates that the processor did not or was not able to correct the
error condition. When clear, this flag indicates that the processor
was able to correct the error condition.

    ADDRV - IA32_MCi_ADDR register valid
Indicates that the IA32_MCi_ADDR register contains the address where
    the error occurred.

    PCC - Processor Context Corrupt
Indicates that the state of the processor might have been corrupted
by the error condition detected and that reliable restarting of the
    processor may not be possible.

    TLBERR - TLB Error {TT}TLB{LL}_ERR
These errors match the format 0000 0000 0001 TTLL

    Concatenated Error Code:
    --------------------------
    _VAL_OVER_UC_ADDRV_PCC_TLBERR_5

This error code can be reported back to the manufacturer.
They may be able to provide additional information based upon
this error. All questions regarding STOP 0x9C should be
    directed to the hardware manufacturer.

Quentin G - Welcome to the Board :)

Your BSOD's are all over the place ....

I suggest you check out your memory using Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool or Memtest - really stress it and let it run overnight if possible.

And check out your hard drive with chkdsk ....

Start > Run > Type in chkdsk /r > OK. Note the space and accept to run at next boot.

Could be that you are looking at an imminent hardware failure - judging by your last log.

Please do not post any more logs until you have carried out the tasks above.

    Footnote ....

Unfortunately these logs require expert knowledge to analyse and no one on the Board at present has the depth of knowledge necessary. However we can make observations and suggestions as to how you might proceed towards finding the cause ....

I have asked for an expert opinion of this - partcularly the last log you posted. A hardware problem would seem to be the most likely cause.

Use Event viewer to check your System log for errors.

To open Event Viewer, go to Start > Run and type eventvwr.msc, click OK.

You can double click on any error for more details, and there is also a button to copy the error to your clipboard for easy copying & pasting.

You should have done that long time ago
For now, wait till we find out what's causing the problem before upgrading.

The first 4 minidumps are related to memory problem. The last minidump is related to Bugcheck code 9C which is hardware problem.

    TLBERR - TLB Error {TT}TLB{LL}_ERR
    These errors match the format 0000 0000 0001 TTLL <--- 0101 (ie 5)

TT Transaction Type Bits 01 means data
LL Cache Level Bits 01 means L1

If my interpreatation is correct, the problem is related to hardware problem to fetch data from transaction lookaside buffer (TLB) from CPU L1 cache memory. As it is AMD CPU, the problem maybe related to overheat or hardware problem of L1 cache memory.
