Hi, Using Win2K on my laptop , on connecting to my ISP IE6 comes up with "the page cannot be displayed / cannot find server" for any URL entered including favorites etc. Bizarrely if I run Outlook it picks up my email and if I use Outlook as a browser I can connect to any web page without difficulty . i've tried checking Network Settings but can't see anything wrong , anyone have any suggestions ?
    Thanks
    Mike

    start~run~cmd

    ipconfig /flushdns <ENTER>

Check windows\system32\hosts and see if your ISP is listed there. If so, very possibly a bad IP address for it. Same with LMHosts
(note - no extensions on either file).

Hi newt , thanks for the reply. I should have stated that I get the same symptoms with various different ISPs ,IE6 behaves in exactly the same way. Also there is no HOSTS directory in my system32 folder ,Outlook continues to behave perfectly as abrowser (never knew till now that it could be thus used) in fact I'm posting this reply from within Outlook, any way of forcing Win2k to uninstall IE6 ?

hosts and lmhosts are files rather than folders. They just don't have any extensions. And they may or may not be there.

You will also have hosts.sam and lmhosts.sam which are sample files - templates so to speak.
