    Hi all,
At my work 3 Pc's running XPpro and running Adobe CS3, also a Mac Os 10.xx and we keep our files (most light vector based) on a MS 2003 server, we have a lot of problems with the CS3 version and his updates. But on the server we have a problem, first the Mac deleted automatic all the files in Maps that where open for reading and writing of the 4 persons that use that Map, not only deleting but also inverse filenames "Design 2007 "= "7002 ngiseD ". This occur in the vision of Abobe when the Mac and Adobe Versioncue are both looking on the server for index. Ok put the backup back. Put the Mac out of bussines, then after a week the whole thing starts again, i think Adobe progams are the reason but the IT guys say no a virus and scan the whole thing again, put XP after a format back on my PC, also CS3 back. Ok this morning the same all over again. Now i like to know is there some program that can log action on the server and if there is action (placing/deleting/moving ) can log withs program and from withs PC it was done? Any help appreciate :)

    Regards >*< TOM >*<

Are you using AppleTalk to share the same files between your MAC and PC's? While this is possible, I've seen issues in the past because of different file name capabilities between the two OS's.
Also, if you haven't already, turn on volume shadow copy on your servers drives. This will allow your PC's to revert to a previous copy of a file on the server in case the problem happens again. You will need to install the previous versions client on your PC's. This is a free download from Microsoft.
You should also check who has access to the file shares on your server, and restrict access to the file share to just those users who need access. Many times inexperienced users create a share without knowing that the everyone group has permissions to access the share.

    Hi Bursley,
thanks for the response, this morning only my PC and one of the other PC's where online, the Mac is not connected at the moment. So i think Adobe CS3 on both of the PC's are making the trouble, because the other PC was not on last week. I try to pin the program that is doing the job on the server, also changing rights of some maps and put some maps there that where gone on a other place. I think Versioncue of Adobe is doing it, but i dont install it but still i find a log file in my common files map in Program files. So is there a program that can log activity on the server with info what program did it?

My looking at the Version Cue software description on the Adobe website, it is a versioning program that allows multiple users to modify project files w/o conflicts. I don't know anything about this software, but it sounds very similar to other version control software, such as Visual Source Safe, or Team Foundation Server for example. Both of which include a logging and file history capability to determine who and when files were modified.
It sounds like you are on the right track for determining the source of the problem, but I would recommend you engage Adobe to find out if they have a patch to correct this particular problem, (if they are even aware of it).

    Hi Bursley,
Today it was bingo again on the server. The IT guy ask me to Delete the Bonjour services, because Version Cue is using it also, then he find some software to look on the PC's withs programs try to do something on the network,
we install that (file mon) and he start also something on the server that does the same. Tomorrow in the morning i put back the files from the latest backup and hope to find out with program is making the trouble. Thanks for the advice so far. Adobe is not very helpful, also problems with CS3 on the Mac with update we get Software installed where we did not ask for and then later we got e E-Mail from Adobe that we have software running without license and if we continue using it they take away our other licenses! Then the next moment all the Adobe program's are gone! Then while he is busy with Photoshop he gets a warning that the license is wrong and Photoshop will work for another hour and then stops! Adobe says that there is a wrong updater that hackers provide and we must kill the Updaters of CS3 till they say it is alright again to update. If you set the updater NOT to update, he just do it anyway!:( So you here from me more, hope with the solution! :)
