new to Vista and new to wireless connections.

I am able to get wireless at home, easy connection. At work we have one I can use, but I cant get in. It says it is connected, but when I bring up IE it isn't up. When I go into the connection it wants me to set as home or work or public. Is this stopping me from getting on? From network and sharing center it shows an X between the network name and the internet, but ok from me to the network. There is no password needed that I see. It does say Local only???

ANyone know why I cant connect?

I'm not sure if that would stop you, it may. I always set it accordingly (depending on where I'm connected).

1st set the connection to Home/Work or Public.

If it still shows "local only ", you can use Diagnose and repair to find out what the problem might be.

Did you ever find a solution?

Just a suggestion if you did, since there is an "X" between you and your internet, and your network connections, it would appear that you are only connecting to the network router and not the internet our that or you aren't registering there, look to see if you register and possibly try to look and see if you have your IP and stuff set to what you want it to be set as or if it is set to be assigned, if set to your settings try using auto assign, and vice versa..

Just trying to help, it may be wrong I don't know.

Ok go into your network connections after you have connected to the access point, and open it up and go to details, at the top of all the numbers there should be something saying either assigned by DHCP or Static, if static go back to the general tab and click properties, then, in the lis, find TCP/IP and click properties, then set it to obtain all those automatically.

If that don't work then let me know how many computers there are on the network that are wireless.

That would be the 1st question you'd have to ask your admin.
