Thank you Rockster, it was a bit frustrating at times, but worth the effort I think, I think Dave has a great deal of knowledge as well as patience and persistance.....New Bremen Bulldog... I like that and I think it fits the situation perfectly.

    Dave,
Is it possible for zone alarm to interfer with the cable modem?? I returned the computer hooked everything up (the hardware, mouse keyboard etc.) It is up and running fine, but when I tried to connect to the internet I got the same problem I had with my wireless adapter here. The lan shows the connection (called time warner to verify, they said the modem shows the signal on their end and that it is working properly) suggested reinstalling zone alarm. When I opened internet explorer it still says the page your requested is not available offline. I removed the dial up connection I had here, and clicked on never dial a connection, and autodetect network settings. I feel like I am missing something simple????

It's possibly Zone Alarm. Quick test ...... with IE closed, right click the tray icon and select Shutdown Zone Alarm, answer yes to the 'Are you sure' popup. Now click the LAN connection icon (if not on the system tray, open Network Connections and right click the Local Area Connection icon) and select Repair. Try IE again.

If still not working, select Status on the connection and tell me what the address listings are on the Support tab.

BTW, did you do the WinsockFix suggestion from here?

It's working now, yes I downloaded the winsock fix, it was just the login screen for time-warner that wouldn't load. Now all appears to be working fine.
