    Hi Lenny,

mywebsearch is adware/spyware - is your daughter-in-law experiencing popup advertising and/or heavy resource usage?

    Do the following:

    Please download HijackThis!
    SetUp from http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/HJTsetup.exe
Save the file to your desktop.

    Double-click the HijackThis!
SetUp icon to begin the installation.
Follow the prompts for the default install location of:'C:\Program Files\HijackThis'.
Tick the 'Create a desktop' button when the option appears.
Select next, then allow HijackThis! to start.

    Then press the [Scan] button.
You will notice the [Scan] button will turn into a [Save Log] button.
Click the [Save Log] button and notepad will open up with the contents of the scan.
Right-click in the saved log, and select 'copy'.

Post the contents to a new thread in the Virus/Spyware removal section of the BBS.

MyWebSearch is actually an optional removal. Deemed as bad by some, but not-so-bad by others. It's generally installed when MSN Messenger users obtain smilies from FunWebProducts, and they will generally re-install them (it) if they don't work the next time they use MSN Instant Messenger. A bit more about it here

If you want to proceed with uninstalling, you can disable UAC in msconfig and reboot, then try removing via Add/Remove.

Thanks for the help. For reasons of her own? Now that she knows what the source is she has decided to leave the status quo.

At least she now knows how to remove the "MYWEBSEARCH" if she wants to.

P,S. I am not so sure after my exposer to VISTA that I would want it any sooner than I will have to? I still prefer my XP Home. Thanks again loonychoons Lenny Chowns
