Is this data "findable" or "restorable"??

    Greetings,

Last night I spent 2-3 hours composing a post on an internet forum (which was very important information) using Netscape 7.2 (my current browser). After I spend hours typing it all out & adding links n' such, I hit 'send' and it published on the forum. I did not go to the forum to read it...and I (duh me), did not copy & paste it to any file before I hit 'send' to post the post.

Here are my questions: IS this data that I typed, stored somewhere in my cache? And if it is, how do I go about finding & restoring it?

Thank you "oh so much" for your responses.

    Unyquity,

If you sent the message to the Forum using Netscape 7.2 Mail & Newsgroups, then the message is in your Sent folder. Look here for the Sent folder of your Mail Account:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profile_name\*.slt\Mail\pop.ispname.net

Open the Sent folder in either Notepad or Wordpad. Scroll to the bottom of the file (if this was the last message sent) for the message.

NOTE: I have edited your post, as I thought some of the content inappropriate for this family Forum.

Scroll to the bottom of the file (if this was the last message sent) for the message.
Or to the top if you have the habit of having your messages in the descending order like I do. I don't like to have new messages at the bottom of the pile!

Thank you VERY much...another question, if I may...

    Ramona,

Thank you VERY much for your information. I really appreciate it. However, it seems that my 363MB 'sent mail' folder is too large for Notepad or Wordpad to open (???). Do you know of any other way I might open such a large 'sent mail' folder?

(I keep backing up my enormous mail folder -which contains every email I've sent & received since 2001 -including every pertinent business email for every eBay transaction for that time/I'm an eBay seller.) I access these old emails quite frequently, but I realize my luck can't hold out forever. So, I'm getting ready to switch to Firefox (after all these years with Netscape, it's gonna break my lil' computer heart)...but I can't decide which email client to use. Do you have any suggestions?

(Since I need my Netscape emails, but can't IMAGINE being able to export them to a new email client, I plan on just assigning the new email client I use with Firefox to be the 'default', and then only opening the old Netscape browser/email as I need to reference it/them).

Any and all suggestions or tips willingly accepted.

    Unyquity

P.S. And thank you SO much (too) for cleaning up my post like you did - that's very important and I apologize for not considering my words' effect on everybody (especially lil' uns).

    Unyquity ...

Notepad is a holdover from the early days of Windows and hasn't received much in the way of updates ... IMHO, it should have been scrapped when M$ introduced Windows 95 twelve years ago. You've already discovered its biggest shortcoming, which is the limit on the size of the files it can open. Fortunately, there are many replacements for it which do not have that limitation, one of the better ones being EditPad Lite.

That may work if you've followed a thread from the beginning, but I find it much easier to read down, rather than up, through a thread.

    Jim,
are we talking about the same thing?
descending meani newest messages on top. I don't have my mail in threads. It would be a mess, if I would.

    Westside ...

As my kids would say, "My bad!"

You're right, we weren't talking about the same thing. Because both unyquity and Ramona mentioned "forums ", I got it into my head that they were talking about posts in a forum, such as the one we're in now, while you and they were talking about email messages. I, too, show my newest messages at the top of the heap.

unyquity, my dear, you have made the mistake of using your default folders as archives. Big fat no no, as you have found out the hard way. You might as well go catch a movie while WordPad opens the Mail in your HUGE Sent folder. If for any reason there is a power outage, or your PC crashes during this process, you most likely would lose everything. Do you catch the moral of this story?

What you can do, however, is:
First, back up your entire Netscape Profiles folder, and then your Mail folder, since you want double protection here, due to the size of your folders.

    Next:
Edit your Inbox and Sent folders, by creating subfolders for the Mail Account.
Move everything over 75 KB to the new subfolders for both Sent and Inbox. There is a limit of 2GB for the Inbox and I would suggest less than 1GB.

Once you have completed the edit, then Compact ALL folders which you have edited...

If you do decide to go with Thunderbird for Mail & Newsgroups (which I highly recommend) Thunderbird automagically migrates everything in Netscape 7 Mail. All you have to do is click a button.

Let us know if you have further questions,
