Just installed windows XP. Can't get dual monitors working. Using one AGP and one PCI. Have tried 4 different PCI cards. Finds driver, but won't enable it (although works ok when used as single monitor.) Problem is probably PCI card - 2nd card has to be on Windows XP list, and capable of turning VGA off on the card. The list has only 10 PCI cards listed. I don't want to buy them all trying to find one that works (eg - can turn VGA off). Has anyone got 2 monitors working? If so, which card operates in PCI for 2nd monitor?

Been through all the trouble shooting guide. Computer shops don't know.

When a second video card (not AGP, but PCI) was installed on my system, I Connected two monitors so I could see what was going on.

Open Display Properties by ---> right click on desktop > <display> then <settings> . A second monitor showed in the Settings area; It was greyed out.

when the "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" check box is checked, the monitor comes on as an extension of the desktop. Any thing that can be dragged can be moved to the other monitor as though one desktop. Either monitor can be used as primary by selecting it's "Use this device as the primary monitor." check box.

Either monitor can be dragged to right, left or above or below, arrange as desired.

I understand that 9 monitors can be supported by XP this way.

I don't know why everyone doesn't use two monitors. However, the difficulty is finding a PCI card that works with Windows XP. I would hate to function without a second monitor. - unthinkable.

This is very easy under Win 98 - any PCI card, and any old monitor.

After endless searching I gave up, followed others advice, and ordered a dual AGP card. Hope to get it today.

I used an MX440 card from Jaton. Installed no problem, and working perfectly on two 19" monitors. Set refresh rate to about 85, and all's well.

Even though this thread seems to be over. I thought I would just mention that while running Windows 98SE I had my GeForce2 and an old (OLD) S3Trio 64 running together with no problems, dual monitors and had no problems modifying their individual screen res and refresh rates (The old S3 couldn't do any higher than 800 x 600). As soon as I installed Windows XP I couldn't get it to work any more and have tried about 7 different cards all to no avail (apparently with the GeForce's you need to have your second vid card with a nvidia chipset on it)

I would like to get a dual head, can you get GeForce series cards with dual monitor support and not just nview?

    STB Velocity 128 works.

I use an ATI Rage 128 primary card and a STB Velocity 128 as a secondary (got it on Ebay for 16 bucks including shipping).

The combo works well (after I found the right drivers) .
