Due to a software problem, we had to strip and reload all HP Media Center M480N software that came with my 12 yr. old son's original PC. For the last few months, a pop-up keeps trying to load FAX. No matter how many times you try to close the program, it keeps continually trying to load, looking for a CD. Not having enough experience w/ this , need some real good step by step help. Saw that in 2002 someone posted same question, but no real solution provided! HELP????

    Pete,

Believe that may have just done the trick! Will wait to see if my son complains about it again popping up. Thanks so much!:)

FWIW, I once had the same problem, coupled with the persistent reappearance of a Windows Installer window wanting to install TrayApp. I would get I guess something like five-ten messages trying to install Fax (cancel cancel cancel cancel!), then a couple trying to install TrayApp, and so on.

At one point, I logged in as Administrator, looked at Control Panel > Install Apps > Windows Components and found that the gremlins had ticked Fax without asking my permission. Unticking that worked as long as I was logged in as Administrator, but the problem persisted when logged on as a normal user, who of course hasn't got authorisation to install/uninstall Windows components.

I did some research around this board, and found lots of others having the same problem, and lots of helpful replies. But the one that really solved it for me was the advice simply to insert the installation CD that came with my HP all-in-one, and the problem went away like magic.

It came back about two-three months later (this morning), and the same trick worked again. Not sure what caused it to reappear, but in case it's of any relevance I had done a Registry First Aid cleanup and then a defrag earlier in the day. But then, I do these pretty often anyway...

    TrayApp probelms and registry programs

If you browse the HP site and the web you will find many mentions of TrayApp problems and registry programs.

I know with Registry First Aid they have a fix available which means re-installing the program and using the Exclude feature of registry First Aid to prevent it occuring again.

    Try their support area at

    Mention your problem.

Nice piece of information there HumBug. I know the newer beta releases of RegSeeker also create a problem as it relates to trayapp. Thanks for that post.

    ;)
