I have my SBS 2003 SP2 Server connected to an APC UPS. Recently the server started going into standby mode and i discovered that the Power Management settings were set to go into standby computer is running on batteries. The problem is the computer is not running on batteries, the UPS has not kicked in since last power cut in January. I have now changed the setting Power Management so that even when running on batteries the computer will not go into stand by.

The only issue i have now is every few hours I get a warning

    Critcal Battery
You should change your battery or switch to outlet power immediately to keep from losing your work.

It is annoying as at the end of the day if I have not been on on server there are about 5 of these 'warnings' and I need to keep clicking ok. Any ideas?

Maybe that's the answer. Bypass the UPS and see what happens.

Sounds like the UPS battery needs replacing...

The UPS is about 3 months old, this is the replacement. I really do not think it is the battery, as when i manually unplug the power the server runs on UPS until there is 10% power left and then shuts down the server (via the APC PowerChute software).

I was not sure there was any problems/conflicts with the APC PowerChute and SBS 2003 SP2 o/s, or if the fact i am using USB connection is causing.

I really hope its not the battery as had to fight tooth and nail to get this replacement UPS.

It might be worth swapping out the cable between the UPS and the server. It could be a dodgy connection in the cable causing the problem.
