I have a dell desktop cp I bought from the mortgage company I work for. I am having problems with the internet. My system has Windows XP in case that is important to know. Comp will be connected to the internet but only select pages are viewable at first and then after a couple of minutes everything comes up "cannot find server" though still showing connected. This is wireless connect I am using now but I had the same problem with the cable modem as well. Someone told me to remove comp from domain....which I moved it to workgroup but am still having this issue. I am familiar with computers but still a little cp illiterate so any advice would need to be detailed if possible. Im not even sure if I removed it from the domain correctly to tell you the truth. I thank everyone in advance for any help offered for my current issue!!!!

dommies - Welcome to the Board :)

Suggest you set up a new connection to your ISP and delete any others which exist.

    Still no luck!!!

Ok we did as you suggested but are still encountering the same problem. I did run a test on my CP through a site and it said My DNS server IP address is configured incorrectly. So here is where I stand, I have no idea how to change these configurations and some of the solutions I have seen online are very confusing. I was also scared to try some of them as I do not know how seriously i could damage my comp. Any suggestions on this?? By the way thanks for the Welcome and the advice!!!

I am reluctant to post what I think is the resolution to your problem as it is outside my area of certain knowledge.

I have drawn your thread to the attention other Team Members and edited the title.

You might just need to flush the DNS cache and make sure DNS is set to obtain an address automatically.

Set connection to Obtain DNS Server Automatically
    Open Network Connections
Right click your Local Area Connection and select Properties.
On the General tab, locate Internet Protocol in the list, click to select it, then click Properties.
On the General tab, check the box to Obtain DNS Server address automatically. Click OK then OK again.

    Flush the DNS cache

Click Start>Run and type the following command (space included), then hit enter.

    ipconfig /flushdns

OpenDNS is a good alternative as well ;)

Whiskeyman thank you so very much!! I have searched high and low for simple instructions on how to do that and got everything but!!!! I am going to do that as soon as I get home and keep my fingers crossed!!! Thanks again and if that doesn't do the trick I will try Noahdfear's idea as well.
