    Hi All,

I have yet another problem. There is a folder on my flash drive that will not open and I get an error message about the folder/or file is corrupt. I'm grateful that the rest of my folders on the flash drive are fine and I did a back-up immediately of what is remaining on it but is there any way at all I can salvage the folder that is supposed to be corrupt.

I have no idea how it could have gotten corrupt as I have Norton Anti-virus that checks all the files upon opening them and the flash drive was working fine last week when it was the last time I used it before trying it last night.

    Any suggestions???? Thanks again.

It is not uncommon for flash drives to fail from time to time or corrupt files. The less expensive drives are often worse - it can be the luck of the draw and for important data I would use a good quality drive from a recognised manufacturer and either duplicate the backup on another drive or use two drives alternately on a time scale that suits you.

If the file is corrupted it basically cannot be read no matter what software is used. However it would be worth trying a File Recovery program - just in case :)

File Recovery by PCInspector is a freebie - there are others of course.

Thanik you Peter. I will try the File Recovery program and see if I have any luck.

I was using the San Disk Titanium Cruzer which I thought was one of the better ones out there but it still happened. I guess now I know to use two of them to back up my information.

Thank you and I will let you know if the File Recovery worked.

    Anne,
From some of the folks around here, I found out that theirs got corrupted by improper removal procedure from the Port. By that I mean it's been told to me that when data transfer is complete they reach over and just remove the Item. Which for the better quality flash drives isn't proper removal procedure.

Normally there's an Icon in the tray and when you click on it you have a shut down procedure, follow that and then one can safely remove the device.

Some data on Flash drives can get corrupted by improperly removing them.

I'm not saying this is what you did, but it's just possible this is what may have accidentally happened.

    HTH
