Auto Updates

I have Win XP. I had auto updates checked. In the last week two updates have come in for Microsoft NET Framework v1.0 and 1.1. I installed both. But these same two updates continue to download and when I close down the computer these updates are still there to be installed. They do not show up in Add/Remove currently installed programs and updates. Even re-booting does not get rid of them.
Now I have auto updates un-checked but these two updates are still there. A icon in the task bar and to turn off the computer.
Can you tell me how I can get rid of this? I do hope that I have explained my problem so that you can understand.

Thanks for the replies. I am still unable to install the two updates for NET Framework Version 1.0 and 1.1. I finally went to System Restore and went back to where they did not come in and then shut off Auto Updates. I also have NET Framework version 2.0 and a security update for that on this pc. Can I safely delete all and redownload 2.0 or even 3.0.
