I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but my IBM Thinkpad which I think is about 5 or 6 years old does not turn on at all. I have tried changing the batteries and with the electrical code plugged in but I get nothing it will just not turn on (power on). Is it totally dead?

    Thanks.

I would suspect the power supply has gone, they will go just like that with no warning.

Try it with the batter BACK IN again.

It may just have been loose, or a loose power cord.

If it will not come on with the batter in, then the battery is bad (probably shorted internally)

Well thank you all - I have no idea what it is but with computers I have given up trying to figure it out.

I did try it without the battery earlier and it did not work. For some reason (which I'm grateful that it did) it worked now and it worked with the battery also except that it is obviously low so needs to recharge.

Well thank you very much - you all have golden touches!!!!!
