There's more than just the "you didn't ask" :D electrical storm at play here.
Theresa, the psychic, has been PM'ed. Perhaps she can enlighten all.

    ;)

If you would take the time to review the pinouts and the wiring, you have them connected incorrectly or they are shorted out which is not uncommon. Just because you have a 9 pin header and a 9 pin connector doesn't mean they mesh correctly. Each pinout and each wire has to be properly identified and connected. Just as dangerous, a comm port and a 1394 port will look identical to a USB port to the untrained eye. RTFM.

    What?

There isn't more than that you didn't ask, besides I hadn't remembered that until I was making the post to be truly honest.

Anyways who ever you PM'd, are they a hardware techie?

This from page 26 of your manual (assuming Dave ID'ed the correct motherboard - I couldn't make out either of your attachments)

Be careful with the polarity of the front USB connector. Check the pin assignment carefully while you connect the front USB cable, incorrect connection between the cable and connector will make the device unable to work or even damage it. For optional front USB cable, please contact your local dealer.

    And these are the pinouts:

    1 Power 2 Power
    3 USBDX- 4 USBDY-
    5 USBDX+ 6 USBDY+
    7 GND 8 GND
    9 No Pin 10 GND

Now, you only have two nine pin USB connectors so if you tried a different connector, it was either a 1394 or comm port connector and you just might have fried something.

As to Theresa, she is a clairvoyant - if you have a decent picture, she would most likely hold the picture with her eyes closed and hopefully, give us an answer that may be elusive to normal investigative techniques. She has proven to be helpful in the past. I'm not sure about her technical credentials.

It has nothing to do with the cable!

I have tried an aditional one and still nothing, and I haven't plugged anything else into the pins, so if they are fried I didn't make them so.

OK, OK ....... you threw me with this comment.
I could leave well enough alone, keep my fingers crossed and hope that the wiring in your front USB port terminal blocks match the pinouts on the motherboard but that wouldn't do you any good. Logically, if two of the four front ports never worked it just might be possible that the pinouts and the terminal block wiring didn't match up. Nine pin terminal blocks are wired quite differently manufacturer to manufacturer just as the USB pinouts can be quite different. It is because of this that more and more case manufacturers have gone to nine individual connectors as opposed to an integrated terminal block. If the "cable" you referenced is correct, then we need an explaination as to why two of your ports never worked. If you want to give me the case manufacturer and the model, I'll be glad to check it out.

At this juncture, I would suggest that you try another set of USB ports with a nine pin header that matches your motherboard pinouts and if you don't have one, I'll be glad to send you one and will even pay the postage. I'll also be glad to send along one that doesn't match and you can experiment.

I'm not trying to harass you, I'm trying to get to a potential solution. My methodology might not make a whole lot of sense to you but I am following a very logical progression based solely on your input and feedback. Lets try to stay positive, upbeat and to the point - hopefully, we'll get this resolved and can all be happy campers.

    ;)
