Are you using Outlook Express to open your mail?

What types of files are you wanting to open? Jpeg - Zip - Doc etc?

Adding OE to the list isn't going to help. Doc file require MS Word to open them....

If you save the attachments to your desktop and then double click on em do they open?

Curious to find out why you'd want to do this?

You can edit the proper Registry Key and add any program you like. The System should have already compiled the static list to include all Registered programs already. The dynamic list is compiled when you choose "Open With" for any particular file. For your purpose I would recommend using one of the free tools that can spare you the risk of Registry editing. Try this one:

    OpenWithAdd

    or

    OpenExpert

If you still want to work in the Registry, let me know and I'll give you the details.

EDIT: I hope you aren't misleading yourself into thinking that adding OutlookExpress to the list will enable you to open any and all attachments that you may get. OE can only open the files with a .dbx extension.

maybe I am misleading myself all I no is all my attach files are opening with IE7 and if I want to pass them on I have to email them to myself and pass them on . I download open with and installed it and it said done. But when I plug in my flash drive and the window come up open with I didn't see outlookexpress in there.

You should see a window at the top of the Outlook Express message that say "Attach" and inside it will be the attachment file name. If you right-click on that and select "Save As" and direct the action to your Desktop or wherever else you would like it to go, then you will be able to save the attachment for any purpose you intend. You can double click it and it will open (providing you have the parent program for the file type). You can also attach it to any e-mail you send.

That's the normal screen you will see before you direct the tool to whatever program you want to add to the "Open With" list. You have to click the ellipsis button (button with the 3 dots) and browse to the executable file for the program you want to add.

I don't think this program is going to be the answer to your problem so I won't get into further detail unless you request it. I think you'll find that the Outlook Express executable file is already on your "Open With" list. It is carried under the name "Outlook Message Database Viewer." The executable file is normally located at "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe"

I think you just need to get more familiar with how attachments are handled by OE7. The important area of focus is the file listed in the "Attach" field at the top of the message.

If I have misunderstood, post back and feel free to enlighten me further.
