I;m having .avi problems on my computer.

    ~~ I have xp sp2 with windows media player 11 ~~

It says they [avi files] are playing, but the screen is completely black where it should be showing. Also in movie maker it does the same thing(not importing/previewing/playing/saving movie)

I've done the filters in movie maker and checked all the boxes in "File Types" in wmp11.
I don't know what else to do.
    Thanks for any help.

Check the video settings in WMP by going to View > Enhancements > Video Settings. If in doubt, click the Reset button and it will go back to the default values.

The AVI extension is not what it used to be, as Microsoft dropped that format a decade ago. You may need to install Divx Video Player for the proper codec. It works with Media Player for playing and with Movie Maker for importing.

Movie Maker will not save in the AVI format, though, only in WMV.
