Hi Tom and Geri (cartoon pun)lol

I'm back again. its keith 1000. it seems like with windows that every 4 month on the nose something is wrong with this dam computer.
well it started about a week ago on boot up, and this is what it says
C:\windows\system32\fgrlxogms\winlogon.exe is not a valid win32 application. then i hit ok and it reads again
could not run windows\system32\fgrlxogms\winlogon.exe specified in the registry, make sure the file exists.
i then have to repeat the prossess once again then it goes away, but i believe it is affecting the computers performance, it seems a little sluggish latly.. well here is my hijack report, once again help is very appreciated
    thanks : keith

So who's using your pc every four months? :p

Access your Add or Remove Programs Control Panel by hitting your [Start] button, select Control Panel and click on Add or Remove Programs. Then find the following programs and click the [Change|Remove] button for each, if they are listed. If they are not, continue with instructions
    MyWebSearch

Run HJT, and place a check next to the following lines, then, with all browsers and windows closed, hit 'Fix checked':

Keith, please run the folowing tool before fixing anything, then run HJT again and fix what remains.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
    • Finally copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

    hi tom
well i'm about to get started, and its pretty ironic that the first thing on your list is to remove my search, because i said to my girlfriend that i also believe that problems started when she downloaded that program, well she said that she used it for e-cards. is it a really bad program or is there a chance we can keep it , please reply cause i will start with the sdfix then remove the program then hijachthis:)

OK, glad to hear the prompt is gone.

With regards to MyWebSearch, they are not inherently 'evil' but they do things most security minded people don't really like much, so 99 out of 100 will ask users to remove it. It was not any major part of any infection tho, just a matter of preference more than anything else.

And e-card sites, right now with the current Storm trojan slamming inboxes all day and all nite, including one of mine which I use as a sort of 'honeypot'(40 different IPs in the last 10 days or so) I would stay away from ecard sites, because alot of ISP spam filters may be looking for ecard related stuff in emails and it may get dumped as 'spam'.

Nothing in the log to indicate any problems, is the machine working ok, aside from the prompt being gone, no other things to report?

As a side note, I see you have Limewire and Azerus, both P2P file sharing sites. This is a risky habit to continue. Unless you make your system bullet proof, I'd dump both apps and look for a safer, albeit likely to be a 'pay for' service, those are much safer.

I was pointed to something still on the system.

Run HJT and fix the following line:
    O4 - Startup: winlogon.lnk = ?

Reboot, rerun HJT, if still present look here:
    Look in C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
    and delete the winlogon shortcut.

    hi tom
i went away to the trailer for the weekend. ok now i did what you said and that line you mentioned to delete wont delete, it say unexpected error occured! error #52 (bad file name or number) in sub getlongpath(?.exe).--please send a report to merijn@spywareinfo.com, mentioning what you were doing, and what version of windows you have. this message has been coppied to your clipboard.---OK--then i hit ok and then it says unable to delete the file: 04-startup:winlogin.ink=?.... the file may be in use. use taskmanager to shutdown the program and run hijackthis again to delete the file... well i then went through and turned every program off and tried again and the same errors occured.
well i will leave this one for you to play with
    thanks keith
P.S. everythink has been working ok except i think it is still a bit sluggish surfing pages and windows in general

Ok, that error is not too uncommon, did you run HJT again to see if it showed up in the log? Let me know.

actually ya i did and it was still there because like i had mentioned it wouldn't let me delete it so i'm going to work now but i will try again later and make sure there are no programs running at all and will try again, otherwise i will leave it for you to ponder if it really should be removed and if there is another way to remove it
    thanks keith

Download the Killbox from here, (not the beta link) and save it to the desktop.
    • Double-click the KillBox icon on your desktop to open it
    • Select "Delete on Reboot "
    • Then select "All files ".
Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogon.lnk

    Return to Killbox
    • Go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard ".
    • Click the red-and-white [Delete File] button.
    • Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the 'Pending Operations' prompt.

Reboot, run HJT, see if it's there.

No worries about the length of time, I realize lots of folks have other somewhat more important things needing attention.

The log looks fine, not seeing anything 'new'.

Excellent news, glad to hear the offending line is gone.

No need to post the log if it's not there, that was the only thing we needed to rid.

And thank you for contributing it is greatly appreciated by all. We're here to help you whenever you need help.
