While installing my Netgear router yesterday, with the aid of a Netgear guy in India (!!), he told me to not use my firewall or Norton virus protection. I read that Netgear has its own firewall but see nothing about virus protection. Should I reinstall Norton?

Absolutely put your AV software back on. No idea why a tech would say not but he was just plain wrong. He may have meant only while you were installing the router and just not made himself clear.

Many of the routers have a built-in firewall and a hardware firewall will always be faster than a software one. But, it will lack the features you can get with a good software firewall so you might want to run both.

Thanks for your response. I've gotten Norton back up on the downstairs computer. Now, I am searching for the original stuff for the upstairs computer. I'm beginning to wonder if I downloaded it from the Net 3 years ago. My poor mind just has such a time cluttered with computer stuff that is just beyond me. It is pretty incredible how illiterate an intelligent person can be!
