GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I have searched and tried several ways to move my address book and folder files from my old XP OE to my new Vista Outlook 2007and haven't had any luck!

I've tried the import/export way and when I get to the Outlook mail the options are listed different than in OE so the directions I have don't follow right. I'm using my flash stick to transport back and forth. Is there an easy way that I've missed to move this stuff? I really hate to have to type allllllll those addresses in and I have mail on the XP that I really need to keep. Guess I'm just having a SENIOR day!

    PLEASE HELP....ANYONE!!!

    tks

    :)

Wow! A lot of work here, but worth it to get stuff moved to where I want it. Thanks for the links! I'll get back to you when I, hopefully, successfully move all this.

Ok. Super senior moment here. I managed to save all the files to my flash stick like directed. Now. I'm trying to put all this into MS Outlook. I don't see anywhere on here where it says WINDOWS MAIL. I take it that MS OUTLOOK and WINDOWS MIAL are NOT the same thing? In the list from when I do the FILE/IMPORT/ there isn't a list that says CONTACTS or MESSAGES. It should be simple! I don't have my XP hooked up to the net. Just my Vista is. Shouldn't I be able to save those files to the flash and then just dump them into MS outlook? Obviously NOT! Sigh. Need help again.

Interesting. I just did a search for WINDOWS MAIL and found it. When I clicked on it, it wanted me to set up an account. Should I be using this program for mail instead of MS Outlook? I'm reallllly confused now! lol

    Thanks!

Use whichever you prefer. WINDOWS MAIL replaced Outlook Express for Windows Vista. With Windows XP, you could use either Outlook Express or Outlook or both. And, with Windows Vista, you can use either Windows Mail or Outlook or both.

I believe you do not need to set up an account in Windows Mail in order to import Outlook Express mail into it. In other words, Windows Mail can simply be used as the intermediate step for getting mail moved from Outlook Express to Outlook 2007. You might go ahead and set up an email account in Windows Mail and try using it for awhile, and then decide whether you still want to use Outlook 2007 for email.

Interesting. But, when I clicked on windows mail it wanted me to set up an account. I think I had to follow the options to do that. So. If I set up an account in windows mail, I can still use my same email address? When I called Gateway to solve a plug in problem, they went ahead and ran me through a set up and outlook is the mail they set me up with. Ok. I'll check this out tomorrow and see how it works. It does sound like a good idea to run my OE through windows mail and then get it to outlook. Assuming I can get it into windows mail right. lol....

    Thanks for the tip.

Well. After several days of thinking what I needed to do and figuring out if I really knew how, I FINALLY got my messages imported into Outlook! I did what was recommended in this post. Import to Windows Mail, export to desktop on PC, import into Outlook. I did end up just typing in all the addresses in my book, cause I was getting frustrated that I didn't have them there. No biggie. Now I have this WM set up, but don't really want to use it. I didn't actually set up an account. I just used the program to move my messages. Do I just leave it sitting on my computer or can I delete all those imported folders so that if and when I sell this computer, the folders aren't in there?

Thanks again for all your help out there! Isn't technology amazing? lol
