    Hello guys!

here is the problem. I bought laptop MSI M655 and mine uncle has wireless points in his house which is right next to mine.and he is fixing computers but he doesnt know what could be the problem here.It worked just great for about 3 months and then it started to block.i mean sometimes it didnt wanted to see wireless signal.it saw it for about 10 hours and then later it stared to work even less and less.now it isnt working at all!

i dont know why,but i cant see a signal and everything is set like it was before and it worked.

i have AMD Turion64 2GHz,radeon X1600 256MB,100GB hard disc,1GB DDR and i am using Ralink wireless program to start wireless.

can someone give me some tip or advice what to do and what could be the problem??

i would be very thankful!thank you in advance!!

    Dean

Yep! looks like the other problem is fixed.

I think there are two likely causes for you problem. If this is intermittent as your posting suggests, then it is less likely to be a setting issue so:

    1. It is a signal problem. Something has changed between the two buildings. Was the wireless signal working through winter and early spring, and then start to fail late spring early summer? If so my guess is there are some large shrubs, bushes and trees between the two buildings. Leaves can be quite effective at blocking wireless signals. As there are more leaves in the summer, you get more blocking.

However, it could be something else. Is there anything new been placed between the two buildings? A large metal object or an electrical appliance?

It could even be that a neighbour has added their own wireless network and this is attenuating the signal on your uncle's network.

With any of these causes there are couple of things to do/check. Do you get good signal in your uncle's house? If so, this supports the signal problem between the two houses. If this is the case try changing the channel the wireless system is using. This changes the frequency of the wireless signal and you may find a frequency that is less effected by outside attenuation.

    2. If you get poor signal inside your uncle's house, I think you could be looking at a hardware issue. The wireless access point or router could be failing. Check that any aerial connection are OK. Also try repositioning the device in case there is a local site problem. It could also be a problem with your wireless card. Can you try another? One of your uncle's for example. Alternative see if your uncle's computer can get signal OK from your house.

well yea its true that it was working during winter and then in 5th month it started to fail a bit and now it isnt working.

but i doubt the problem is leaves and nothing new has been added but i will try to go to the city where is city network with wireless so i will try to catch signal there and if i dont get signal there then it must be something wrong with my computer, right?

I would NOT use the ralink program, I would use the built in Windows Wireless Zero Cong program I have found the built in wifi much more reliable and accurate than 3rd party wifi connection programs.

The ralink program likely loads at boot from:
start > programs > startup (a shortcut there) or
    from a registry value in:
    HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current version/Run.

To use the Windows program you must first start the Wireless Zero service:
Control panel > Administrative Tools > Services (near bottom of list).
Set to Automatic & Started (start the service)

Next, rt click My Network Places on Desktop & select Properties.
Rt click Wireless Connection & select Properties.
Put a check in "Let Windows manage my wireless connection ".
Put a check next to both parts at bottom: (will show wifi icon next to clock).
If that checkmark is not visible or cannot be checked, then open the ralink connection & look for settings that make it the default wifi manager and also set it to not load at boot if possible.

Once using Wireless Zero, double click the wifi icon next to clock & view available wifi networks, then choose your wlan & see if can connect. Also, note the signal level next to the wlan name.

If the onboard device is bad then it could be the cause of those other errors you were getting. To be safe, you can go to device manage and locate the onboard card in the Network section and rt click it > select properties > do not use this device. That way windows won't load the driver for it & conflicts may disappear.
