I recently upgraded my Packard Bell Club 65, Windows XP SP2, from a Celeron 433 MHz to a Celeron 1.2 GHz. Everything works just fine except when I expect the machine to hibernate (set at 1 hour by right-clicking on the Desk Top -> Properties -> Screen Saver -> Power), I often get the two tone emergency alarm coupled with the machine freezing. I tend to associate this alarm with the processor over-heating. However, nothing untoward happens in normal operation. Does anyone know what's going on here?

Hello derek and welcome to the Board,

Do you get this alarm/freezing if manually hibernating thru Start > Turn off Computer?

FWIW - avoid hibernation like the plague :) - it is fraught with problems especially when you realise what hibernation is expected to do.

Far better to set up your power options to whatever you require under the desktop/laptop schemes as appropriate - and to ignore Standby too.

    Ok Pete
Thanks for that. Hibernation wasn't working too well in any case: more often than not, it didn't work at all:)
