We have some users using Win2K Pro that cannot access Task Manager using any shortcut (Ctrl-Alt-Esc or Ctrl-Alt-Del, Task List) however can run taskmgr.exe from the run box quite happily. If you log on to their PC as a different user there isn't an issue. I don't want to delete their ntuser.dat unless I have to. Any ideas???

    Hi aggletonm
Sorry it took so long to reply....I didn't see it. :(
Are you sure it's not Ctrl/Shift/Esc? Anyhow....perhaps this page will be of some use?

    Hi Daizy

Whoops, meant Ctrl-Shift-Esc. It's a weird one, as it happens affects me and about 3 users. Quite high considering we're only piloting W2K at the moment and only have about 35PCs with it on.

When you said you couldn't run it from a shortcut, did you mean that literally? Meaning if you had a shortcut on the desktop pointing to
    %windir%\system32\taskmgr.exe it won't work?

If you right-click on the taskbar and click on Task Manager does it start?

Have you by chance changed keyboard mapping for the affected user accounts?

Newt, sorry for the delay in replying. It's possible to run taskmgr either through start, run or creating a desktop shortcut or at a cmd prompt - just not using ctrl-shift-esc, task manager from ctrl-alt-del or right clicking the task bar.

In that case, unless the affected folks have a different kbd mapping (and I'm really not sure which of the possiblilties might do this) or unless they are using a strange device (KVM switch or similar) I can't account for this behavior.

Might be a good question to put to M$ tech support though. Should be a free case and they have some sharp techs.
