I have installed this microsoft netframework ver 1.1 sp1 3 times and I am still being notified that I need this update. The m.update site shows it has been installed 3 times.

I have listed in control panel Microsoft.net framework 1.1
and hotfix for 1.1 KB 886903

    microsoft.net framework 2 and security update 2 KB 928365

microsoft netframework 3 and horfix for 3 KB 932471

Do I need updates to netframework version 1 ? How do I fix it from listing
that the update got done 3 times when I look at update history on update site.? It doesn't appear that KB 928366 was installed, since it's not listed in control panel.

How do you hide updates, I forget.

Sorry about the subject line. I can revert my drive with Go Back. Do I actually need this update for netframework version 1.1 sp1. KB928366? If so how do I get it to install? I don't get any error messages when I D/L and install from Microsoft update. See original post. Thanks. :)

    http://www.codesecurely.org/archive/2007/07/10/patch-tuesday-blues.aspx

'Anyways I proceeded to manually download the hotfix using the link for Windows Service Pack 2 and .NET 1.1 Service Pack 1. Now when I proceeded to run this hotfix, it prompted me for the file netfx.msi which it couldn't find. Now netfx.msi is actually part of the original .NET install but gets deleted when the install completes successfully. So to get a hold of it I went back to the Microsoft website and downloaded the .NET 1.1 Service Pack 1 installer "“ only problem is this file is called dotnetfx.exe. **Well contained within it though is netfx.msi, so all I had to do was extract netfx.msi out using the following command "dotnetfx.exe /t:c:\temp /c" and then point the waiting hotfix installer to the recently extract netfx.msi.** In a couple of seconds the installation completes and I am fully patched waiting for the next Patch Tuesday J. '
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't understand how to do the extract, and point the waiting hotfix installer to the recently extract netfx.msi The command extracts to C\temp?
How do I *point* the hotfix installer to the extracted netfx.msi?

    Hi, Alicia. :)

    I also am a bit confused about that dotnetfx.exe /t:c:\temp /c command.

If you have WinZip installed with the Windows Explorer context-menu option enabled, you can right-click on the dotnetfx.exe file in Windows Explorer and then use WinZip to extract the netfx.msi from it to a location of your choice. (Details are in my next message.)

I assume you will be prompted when you execute the NDP1.1sp1-KB928366-X86.exe hotfix installer. I assume you will need to tell the hotfix installer where the netfx.msi file is located.

I downloaded dotnetfx.exe and successfully extracted the netfx.msi file from it with WinZip.

When using the Windows Explorer right-click context menu, the easiest way is probably to choose WinZip > Extract to here to extract all the files to the same folder where dotnetfx.exe is located.

Alternatively, if you're savvy enough, you can use the right-click context menu to WinZip > Open with WinZip and then extract only the netfx.msi file to a location of your choice.

EDIT: BTW, if you put netfx.msi in the same folder as your NDP1.1sp1-KB928366-X86.exe hotfix installer before you execute the hotfix installer, then you might not even get a prompt for the location of the netfx.msi file. The hotfix installer might look in its own folder for the netfx.msi file.

folks - i myself had this problem but after the second time with the problem i just did a custom install and told it not to bother me again.

my question here is that this problem is widespread. have all of a sudden had a number of clients emailing me with same problem. so obviously is a m.s. update problem. do you not think m.s. will fix in the next update ??? honestly why should we have to jump through hoops to fix a m.s. ***** up. im a m.s. fan and certified but honestly how the heck am i suppose to walk a couple hundred clients through the so called fixes i see posted.

m.s. has to be aware of problem by now or am i living in a idealistic world. will they fix automatically or do i need a plan to assist all my clients when they have the same problem ???

I did the same thing gghartman, until I figure out what to do about it.

I downloaded the NDP 1.1sp1-kb928366-x86.exe file and I also downloaded
the dotnetfx.exe and extracted netfix.msi to same folder as NDP

The NDP 1.1sp1-kb928366-x86 will not open! ( I tried another download, and it still won't open!)

    Now what?

what your facing as far as things not openning up is what i have found also searching the net. apparently those fixes arent working. hopefully m.s. gets off their butts and pushes down the fix. gotta a feeling im going to get a lot of calls on this one and ill just tell them to disable that particular update after they've tried it a couple times. my guess is that it worked the first time but for some reason its not being registered correctly.

Thought I'd use Microsoft's free support for updates, see if that gets me anywhere.

    Hi, Alicia. :)

I just remembered you asked this question when I typed a reply to another person with a similar problem.

You might be able to click, right-click, or double-click (I don't recall which method works.) on the yellow shield and direct Windows to hide the update notification for KB928366.

Yes I did hide the update by going to the microsft update site, doing a custom scan, and unchecking the 928366 update.

I would still like to fix the problem. It is most frustrating that the
    NDP 1.1sp1-kb928366-x86.exe will not open.
