I love to play sims 2 on my pc and we all know that this is a heavy graphics program. I recently updated my computer with a new MB, Chip and Graphics card.
When playing I have a blue screen come up saying that the Nv4_disp is in some sort of inifinate loop and the computer shuts down. I believe this is something to do with my graphics card but I am not sure how to fix the problem as this is a problem I have never encountered before.

My computer specs are: AMD 64 Duel Core 3600
    Asus M2V Motherboard
    Nvidia Ge7200/7300
1Gb DDR 2 Ram (new as well)
    Running Windows XP SP 2

Any ideas how to fix this problem? I have done the obvious. DL the lastest drivers for my graphics card from Nvidia. Uninstalled my drivers, used a driver cleaner program then reinstalled my drivers with the latest download..This has not fixed the problem.

I did do a search all those on the search had the same problem with no real solution. The only one that was really offered I have already done (reinstall) I just wondered if anyone here had a different slant on fixing the issue once and for all.

Would you pleaase tell us more about the new memory? Is it a single stick or a kit; and what brand?

Would also like info about the PSU; I usually replace it with a larger one when installing a new MoBo etc.

The ram is Kingston Value Ram and is just 1 stick.

I replaced the PSU with a 380w Earthwatts brand.

Since the error message points to a software error (the loop), which certainly might be in the video driver if not in some other software running alonside the game, such as an OS or security process, or the game itself, and since the error has occurred to other users of the game, I can't see how anything you can do locally will solve it. I think all you can do is wait and see if an update to the software, either the game or the drivers, becomes available.

If you can post a dump log someone here might be able to see a pointer to the offending software, but you'd still have the inability to correct it by yourself.

The 64 bit hardware catches some program errors that are allowed to pass in lessor systems. You might try turning off the 'noexecute' switch in the OS to see what happens. It's in the boot.ini file; just change optin to optout. I do it frequently, and it doesn't hurt a thing.

I see the boot.ini file in Msconfig but I am not entirely sure how to change it.

Also is there any instructions on the site how to show a dump log?

I have been doing alot of looking on the web to try and solve this issue. At the time of setting this system up I did not have a proper windows XP disc..I had to use a Dell image disc. Just so I could get a running system ( Buying Vistas next week and hopefully this problem will be non exsistant then!) The main thread I see with all the people having this problem is that the majority have dell computers, I wonder if it might be some sort of conflict between the dell image disc of XP and Nvidia...Just a thought.

In that case I think this problem should be put in abeyance until after you have loaded Vista - if the problem remains.
There are - see our Dump Data Collection Tool ....

There has been an update about this problem.

As you all know the NV4_Disp problem is not just limited to The sims 2. All graphic heavy games have been having the same issue with Nvidia graphics cards, dell computers and the BSOD.

Nvidia has released an update to their drivers to combat this issue. This driver is in the beta stage and is expected to be finalised within the next few days. This driver is replacing the 94.24 driver for nvidia graphics cards.

When installing the driver please make sure you remove the original drivers first so as to not cause a conflict.

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_162.18.html

I have installed this driver myself and ever since I have not crashed once. If you are not experiancing crashing issues please wait until the driver is finalised before downloading it.
