    Hi all.

In Firefox, is there a way (probably in the about:config) that you can
specify that pictures will always be displayed in the larger rather than the
    condensed mode.

When a picture loads and the cursor is over the picture it will display the
"+" sign and a click will enlarge the picture. I would rather the picture always
display in the larger mode. Or disable the two modes altogether if it will
display in the larger mode when the two modes capability is disabled.

I can't find anything on this.

    Thanks.

If you mean pictures at a website, they are going to come up the way the website dictates. I am not aware that one can beat the website to the draw.
Is it possible to predetrmine the size with any browser?

    Hi Westside.

    No, that's not it.

In Firefox if I click (for example) on the following url:

a loop of about 2 hours of weather will come up (U.S.). If you put the cursor over the loop a plus sign appears which allows you to enlarge the picture and then a minus sign appears which allows you to condense the picture.

This is normal for Firefox and it is designed to do that with most all pictures if the picture is on the screen by itself. I don't think it works with pictures mixed with text. Unfortunately it always comes up with the condensed version first. I was wondering if anybody knew how to reverse the zoom or kill it or set it to just the larger (which is the normal one) version.

This is not a function of the web site being accessed. It is built into Firefox. It is possible this function was added to Firefox so those accessing pictures could blow them up a bit.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Hi captjlddavis.

Now that is strange. You're probably right. I might have something loaded that is creating that condition. That's probably why I can't find anything on it. I'm going to pursue it. Maybe I can spot where it's coming from.

    Thanks for the notes.

    Giles,

Long time no see! When you find the exension causing this problem, and I can almost guarantee it is an extension, will you let us know which one? No rush, but I would be interested in knowing.

    Thanks,

My post 6 is incorrect because when I copied the message it included the the quotation marks at the right.
I do not get the option to Edit the old message.
However, I started Firefox in Safe Mode, which should have disabled extentions and Themes, and nothing changed.
Finally, I used the IE Tab, and still nothing. Finally, I tried to play around with the URL, and still got nowhere. I must not be understanding the issue.

    Hi Ramona.

I haven't posted much in a while but I pretty much keep up with everything. Very busy with Vista and it's hangups. A lot of software just won't run on it and also a lot of drivers won't load. Oops. I almost hijacked my own thread.

I'll sure post if I find the solution to my firefox inquiry.

    Giles,

Considering that you are the originator of the Netscape Profile fix, you should be an honorary geek on this Forum.

I know you are pressed for time, and I am always on the alert to find out any browser fix...

My Vista CD is sitting on my Desk, and the more I know, the less likely I am to install Vista. I'll just "keep on truckin'" with Windows XP SP2.

    Cheers! :D

    Ramona,
there is an SP1 beta, which I don't know if will help, but I hope to stay away from Vista as long as I can.

Thank you Ramona, that was very nice.

It seems most everybody is staying with XP. I much prefer it over Vista. I have it loaded on one of my drives and insert it and boot up with every now and then. I've yet to find a reliable way to install a firewall and virus program. None seem to work, even the ones rated for Vista.

Something you might be interest in. I always liked Netscape having the bookmarks listed on the personal tool bar on the left. With Firefox I missed having that. I don't like having to run up to the menus at the top. Never liked that with IE either and I just can't get used to a side bar.

I solved that by putting a folder within the Personal Toolbar Folder named BookMarks (with a cap M) I put ALL my bookmarks within that folder except the things that were already in the Personal Toolbar Folder. The BookMarks folder is at the top of the list. That way I have a folder on the left of the personal toolbar that says BookMarks and the remaining personals to the right of that. Just like Netscape and works perfectly. Of course you have to remember to save your new urls in the BookMark folder (or another folder) rather than in the regular "bookmarks ". Thats easy to get used to. I've found that a lot of users don't realize that you can put a folder in the personal area. With this setup I can access all my bookmarks from the personal toolbar. I don't actually have any single urls there, only folders.

If you like this, feel free to rewrite it smoother.

    Giles,

I'm with you on the sidebar. Somehow that is incredibly distracting, and I just can't use it. I have all my Bookmarks on the Personal Toolbar in folders, according to subject. That was one of the first things I did, when I finally realized I could! No single links for me either, and I love that it is so organized. Much easier than searching thru multiple rows of Bookmarks, like Communicator.

I also keep my Bookmarks separate from the Profiles, as they are an accumulation of almost 9 years, and even though I backup every day, the thought of losing them is totally unacceptable.

I also bought a USB external HDD due to your Partitioning thread from a few years back. Now I have two of them, for each of my PC's, so thank you loads for that!

You were talking about making system backups, and filing it away for hard times. I think the slide out tray would be terrific! I don't partition my HDD either, as what you stated made so much sense. Too bad you don't have time to hang around more, as we could learn so much from your experience!

    Westside,

Like you, I think Vista will have to wait a very long time before it is installed. From what is being written, one might think that Vista may very well be another MS lemon, like Windows Millennium. You think? :)

This thread seems to have strayed off topic and I did not read all of it in detail. Please forgive me if I am repeating what has been already stated.

The magnifying glass with the + sign in it will appear if the image is larger than your Firefox browser window allows. Large images are automatically resized to fit the Firefox window.

Shrink the size your Firefox window to, say, 1/4 of your monitor display to see the normal effect giles described in his first post and post #3.

If I understand correctly, the automatic resizing of images to fit the FF window is the function giles wants to block.

    Hi, Westside. :)

If your FF window is not maximized to fill your entire display, you can click on the edge of the FF window and drag the border of the FF window.

If your FF window is maximized to fill your entire display, then you will need to use the center button in the upper-right corner of the FF window to Restore Down" the window.

Does this satisfactorily answer your question?

But, it does answer my question.
